Key responsibilities

1. Quality assurance & control

  • Implement and monitor the project quality plan, inspection & test plans (ITPs), method statements, and relevant quality procedures for mechanical and piping works.
  • Conduct inspections and verifications for piping installation, equipment alignment, supports, bolting, gaskets, valves, and other mechanical components.
  • Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning activities including cleaning, flushing, pressure testing, leak testing, and reinstatement.
  • Verify that all installed materials and equipment comply with approved specifications, data sheets, and inspection requirements.
  • Ensure calibration and validity of inspection and testing instruments.

2. Documentation & reporting

  • Prepare and maintain QA/QC documentation including inspection reports, test records, checklists, and material traceability logs.
  • Review and endorse quality dossiers for mechanical and piping systems for turnover and final client acceptance.
  • Identify, record, and follow up on non-conformance reports (NCRs), ensuring timely resolution and preventive measures.
  • Support internal, client, and third-party audits and ensure proper closeout of findings.

3. Coordination & communication

  • Coordinate quality-related activities between construction, engineering, procurement, and subcontractor teams.
  • Liaise with client representatives for inspections, testing, and quality documentation reviews.
  • Participate in quality and progress meetings to provide status updates and highlight potential risks or quality concerns.

4. Compliance & safety

  • Ensure all inspection and testing activities are carried out in accordance with HSE standards and procedures.
  • Promote quality awareness and provide on-site coaching or toolbox sessions related to quality practices.

Qualifications & experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience: Experience in large-scale construction or mining projects focusing on mechanical and piping disciplines (excluding welding).
  • Certifications:
    • ISO 9001:2015 quality management system training or certification preferred.
    • Pressure testing or mechanical completion certifications are an advantage.
  • Technical skills:
    • Strong understanding of relevant codes and standards (ASME B31.3, API, ASTM, ISO, etc.) related to mechanical and piping systems.
    • Skilled in reading and interpreting P&IDs, isometric drawings, and layout plans.
    • Experience with test packs, punch lists, and system handover processes.
    • Proficient in MS Office and QA/QC documentation systems.
