JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco's value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations' spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom's vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Position Description

We are seeking a Senior Quantitative Interpretation (QI) Geophysicist with focus on Carbon Capture Usage and Storage (CCUS) to join the Geophysical Solutions Division (GPSD). The primary technical responsibility of the candidate within GPSD is to effectively characterize a potential CO2 storage site. This encapsulates a multitude of factors. First and foremost, to ascertain the storage capacity and containment of a reservoir. Next, to help monitor the status of the injected CO2 in the reservoir, and to manage the process of the injection itself. Hence, the task is multifaceted. Prior to CO2 injection, the approach will combine all the tools available for an integrated reservoir study. Thereafter, the task is to survey the CO2 plume, using an array of monitoring techniques.

This will involve quantitative interpretation QI of seismic monitoring data. This requires extensive rock physics modelling for the detection, mapping and quantification of changes related to CO2 injection. In addition to a thorough comprehension of changes in physical properties symbolized by alterations in fluid properties and rock matrix changes, when injecting CO2 into Clastic and Carbonate reservoirs. The candidate will be part of a competent team of geoscientists, working in tandem, to collectively select the most viable portfolio for CO2 storage. Moreover, the candidate will be constantly engaged with multi-disciplinary stakeholders, in order to streamline operational processes and generate inventive ideas for the portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to perform the following:
• Carbon capture site characterization, which includes capacity, injectivity and containment
• Well log interpretation and QC analysis
• Generate pre-stack and post-stack seismic inversion attributes for assessing containment and seal capacity, sedimentological models, injection and monitoring wells.
• Integration of seismic data with non-seismic methods such as electromagnetics (EM), gravity and InSAR satellite radar.
• Participate in the acquisition and processing stage of seismic data destined for CCUS
• Fault and fracture detection using seismic attributes (e.g. detect, curvature, AVAZ)
• Geomechanical attributes to ascertain seal integrity, lateral leakage assessments.
• Generate rock physics templates to quantify changes related to CO2 injection
• Modeling the effect of CO2 injection related to alterations of the fluid phase and changes in rock matrix.
• CO2 storage capacity and uncertainty estimates
• Incorporate sequence stratigraphic techniques as an additional aid to identify storage opportunities.
• Understand depth conversion of seismically-mapped geological surfaces, considering velocity information and uncertainties.
• Prepare and present professional-quality presentations to technical peers and management.
• Participate in the planning and drafting of CCUS Measuring, Monitoring and Verification plans.
• Provide mentoring and technical assistance to young professionals
• Works in a multidisciplinary environment.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

• As the successful candidate you will hold a Bachelor's degree in Geophysics from a recognized and approved program.
• You will have a minimum of 15 years of experience in the oil industry including several years of exposure to CCUS QI.
• You will also have;
• Strong analytical background
• High motivation and creativity
• Basic well log interpretation and analysis with integration of core data.
• Working knowledge of post-stack and pre-stack seismic inversion
• Experience in rock physics analysis & modeling
• In depth understanding of CO2 injection effects on the physical properties of subsurface reservoirs.
• Experience in monitoring techniques using seismic (e.g microseismic, time-lapse, VSP) and non-seismic methods (e.g magnetotellurics)
• An understanding of geomechanical attributes in relation to understanding seal integrity
• English language proficiency. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
• Experience working in asset teams
• Research publications or patents would be a plus.
• Excellent presentation skills.
