Description

The assistant resident engineer will support and work on projects associated with stormwater and drainage, flood alleviation, wastewater networks, water distribution networks, pumping stations, and recycling plants. This will involve undertaking investigations, planning, designing, tendering, contract administration, and construction supervising and monitoring. The role will be based in Abu Dhabi.

Key accountabilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Technical delivery

  • Assist the resident engineer in administering the operational functions of the day-to-day activities on the project with respect to utilities works. Interact with contractors, sub-contractors, and laboratories and monitor construction work on a daily basis.
  • Coordinate with various government departments, contractors, consultants, and the public to facilitate progress and avoid delays. Coordinate direct activities with other engineers and members of the construction supervision team.
  • Maintain logs of project progress, handover, and final accounts.
  • Arrange progress meetings for various utilities with the service authorities’ representatives, record minutes, and distribute the records as required. Chair meetings with utilities agencies and any other meetings delegated by the resident engineer utilities.
  • Assist the resident engineer in reviewing shop drawings, design proposals, method statements, and other activities including correspondence related to the utility section and prepare replies for the review of the resident engineer.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare instructions, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with contractor engineers on scheduling and application of resources.
  • Direct, assist, and monitor the performance of inspectors and surveyors as applicable.
  • Review and approve design documents, construction plans, and procedures.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Keep necessary records and as-built records, take charge of the handover of utility works to the respective service authorities, and assist the contractor to obtain necessary final clearance.
  • Identify non-conforming works, generate reports and corrective actions, and coordinate responses.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • Collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Work in conjunction with engineers to solve project design problems, performing basic design calculations as required.
  • Conduct technical feasibility studies and site investigations.
  • Liaise with teams working remotely from other parts of the world to facilitate the completion of tasks and projects.
  • Be a good communicator.

Client service management

  • Internal and external client DM infrastructure liaison.
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting and positive relationships.
  • Experience in utility diversions and management.
  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
  • Complete all work in line with core values and in accordance with quality systems and project quality procedures.
  • Design for safety, i.e., construction design management.
  • Other duties as requested from time to time by the resident engineer.
