Assistant Resident Engineer - Mechanical

Job description

The assistant resident engineer will be involved in working on projects associated with stormwater and drainage, flood alleviation, wastewater networks, and water distribution networks. This will involve undertaking investigations, pipeline valves, rising main construction supervision, and monitoring of design and infrastructure work. The role will be based in Dubai.

Key accountabilities

Key accountabilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Technical delivery

• Assist the resident engineer in administering the operational functions of the day-to-day activities on the project with respect to construction works.
• Interact with contractors, subcontractors, and laboratory personnel and monitor construction work on a daily basis.
• Coordinate with various government departments, contractors, consultants, and the public to facilitate progress and avoid delays.
• Coordinate direct activities with other engineers and members of the construction supervision team.
• Maintain logs of project progress, handing-over, and final accounts.
• Arrange progress meetings for various government and interface authorities’ representatives, take minutes, and distribute records as required.
• Chair meetings with government and interface agencies and any other meetings delegated by the resident engineer.
• Assist the resident engineer in reviewing shop drawings, design proposals, method statements, and other activities including correspondence related to the project work, and prepare replies for the resident engineer’s review.
• Demonstrate ability to prepare instructions, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with contractor engineers on scheduling and application of resources.
• Direct, assist, and monitor the performance of inspectors and surveyors as applicable.
• Review and approve design documents, construction plans, and procedures.
• Prepare or assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports.
• Keep necessary records and as-built records, take charge of handing over the project to the respective service authorities, and assist the contractor in obtaining necessary final clearance.
• Identify non-conforming works, generate reports and corrective actions, and coordinate responses.
• Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as appropriate.

Client service management

• Liaise with internal and external clients and DM infrastructure teams.
• Ability to build and maintain lasting and positive relationships.
• Experience in utility diversions and management.
• Follow safe work practices and adhere to company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work safely.
• Complete all work in line with core company values and in accordance with quality systems and project quality procedures.
• Design for safety, including construction design management.
• Perform other duties as requested from time to time by the resident engineer.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with fifteen (15) years of experience in pipeline pumping stations and infrastructure projects.

Experience in DM infrastructure projects is an advantage.
