Working relationships:
The role holder will work closely with the Barge Superintendent, Vessel Captain, Field Engineer, Anchor Foreman, all other Foremen and Supervisors on the barge.
Operating environment:
The role incumbent will primarily work offshore and may have to work in confined spaces, at heights, in extreme weather conditions.
Job purpose
Responsible for all offshore construction work to be performed by the barge and control of activities engaged in laying underwater pipelines, risers, and installation of jacket, decks, etc. He will ensure that all deck operations on the barge are carried out safely and efficiently.
Principal accountabilities
Report to Barge Superintendent, Assistant Barge Superintendent, and Field Engineer for all matters of construction works and progress of the job.
Supervise all personnel on deck and ensure that work is carried out as per plan and quality work is delivered.
Supervise maintenance of the barge that includes conducting timely repairs and upgrades. Coordinate with the Chief Engineer/Chief Mechanic on status of the equipment functionality and operational status.
Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment.
Ensure safety for all operations performed by the barge. Attend toolbox talks with the barge crew and participate in all risk assessment reviews. Ensure implementation of the risk assessment outcomes.
Ensure implementation of approved installation procedures and revise the procedure, if required, with the concurrence of the Barge Superintendent/Field Engineer.
Monitor the work of subcontractorsu2019 personnel and equipment and work closely with them to offer necessary support, as and when required. Provide feedback on their utilization and performance to the Barge Superintendent and the Field Engineer.
Report and review cases of accidents, incidents, and near-misses with colleagues for investigation and further action.
Oversee the deck operations and review the work of other foremen and supervisors to ensure that all requirements of the operations and client-specific requirements for a safe installation are met.
Ensure compliance in accordance with section/company policies and procedures, policy of integrity and code of conduct, and HSE standards.
Educational qualifications & certifications
Secondary School Certificate with a discipline-specific technical qualification, or equivalent.
Relevant experience
Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in offshore construction barges (Jack-Up and Floating Barges) in the oil and gas industry.
Competencies
Should be able to write and communicate in English. Since the job involves a lot of communication, the ability for good communication is mandatory. Should also have the ability to write brief reports.
Knowledge and understanding of offshore construction industry practices for installation, marine, and HSE.
Knowledgeable of all aspects of offshore operations.
Good experience in managing crane operation, lifting operations, and rigging works.
Knowledgeable of HSEMS, environmental awareness, hazardous material awareness, and handling of waste.
Proven supervisory skills.
Good organizational and people management skills.
Committed team player with ability to motivate people to get work done.
