JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

• Assists in creation of a pleasant work atmosphere for staff, patients and family and provision of a care in a safe and clean peri-operative environment.
• Ensures that physician’s orders are carried out and clarify any areas of uncertainty as needed with primary treating team.
• Ensures an accurate, updated and effective hand-over of patient care provision, assignments and other required information at shift change.
• Monitors and guides staff as appropriate in the provision of care and providing support or supervision as required, either inside or outside the peri-operative settings.
• Collaborates with the manager, assigns and coordinates patient care for safe staffing, material resources and related duties.
• Effectives patient care provision safeguarding the health and safety of co-workers, fire prevention management and infection control procedures
• Participate in rostering of monthly unit rota, ensure staffing skills-mix and level appropriately considering proper staff vacation plan.
• Knowledgeable of the department / unit specific scope of service(s). Participate in developing and revision of scope of service and relevant clinical pathways.
• Knowledgeable of current patient care documentation requirements based on nursing professional and accreditation standards.
• Understands the approaches and methods of performance improvement. Actively participates and monitors quality measures for the department/program.
• Implements care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of patients.
• Ensures an accurate, updated and effective hand-over of patient care provision, assignments and other required information.
• Anticipates the overall needs and ensures the availability and functionality of consumables, implants, equipment and other resources before the commencement of the procedures and as needed.
• Ensures daily schedule is communicated to all stakeholders.
• Performs regular chart review auditing and monitoring. Give feedback to Senior Charge Nurse.
• The CN relieves the senior charge nurse during his/her absence
• Participates/initiates in performance improvement activities.
• Supervises Peri-operative nursing staff, assisting with staff, OT suite and procedure scheduling.
• Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Licensed
• Minimum 6 yrs. experience in clinical care with Team Leading exposure in Specialized area
• Able to demonstrate a high level of understanding for the care of peri-operative patients
• Able to provide education and training to surgical patients and families.
• Demonstrates ability to lead groups evident by an atmosphere of teamwork, efforts to obtain input of others involved in planned activity and lack of internal conflict.
• Prioritizes care of the patient based on their immediate needs and best/evidence-based practice and escalates patient care within appropriate time frame.
• Conducts a systematic and holistic assessment of the needs of the patient and their family
• Assesses the effectiveness of nursing care and continually evaluates effectiveness of nursing interventions.
• Knowledgeable of current practices and process according to SKGH policies and procedures and accreditation standards. Participate in developing and revision of Policy and Procedures related to peri-operative care.
• Awareness of quality initiatives and support in collection of data and care improvement for positive accreditation standards and outcomes
• Maintains competence in use of equipment relevant to providing nursing care in the department.
• Demonstrates knowledge and adherent in Root Cause Analyses of sentinel events, serious safety events, and significant “near misses” to identify gaps in processes, procedures, or human error and to develop action plans to prevent reoccurrence and ensures timely and complete data entry into appropriate databases.
• Knowledgeable and adherent to recognized patient’s safety goals at all times. Responsible for staff knowledge, education and implementation within the unit/program.
