JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

• Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise.
• Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors.
• Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access.
• Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.
• Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance.
• Suggesting changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.
• Regularly liaising with IT project managers and database programmers.
• Provide guidance and support to Application Developers
• Assist with schema design, code review, SQL query tuning
• Install, tune, implement and upgrade DBMS installations
• Write and deploy SQL patches
• Upgrade and improve application schema and data upgrades
• Process work accurately and in a timely manner
• Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements
• Collate, prepare and present statistical information for internal and external use

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related information technology field
• 10+ years of experience in data-heavy databases, debugging, and tuning databases to enhance performance.
• Advanced certification as an MCDBA or MCSD for .NET is advantageous.
• Experience with programming languages such PL/SQL coding
• Easily design and implement a business process into functional and efficient code
• Implement and manage company data management practices and policies
• Experience in administering, managing and tuning databases. Ability to read statistical data from the server and help diagnose the performance issues.
• Experience with Oracle RAC, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Hadoop or MySQL.
• Good understanding of data and schema standards and concepts
• Good understanding of database design, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance
• Expertise in SQL. Experience in NoSQL databases is a positive.
• Required knowledge of Indexes, Sargable, Cxpacket, etc.
• Work with indexes, help improve/ change/ define the number of indexes on tables as per the project/application requirement, considering future continuously growing data.
• Actively work on diagnostics & performance tuning the databases.
• Prepare plan of action & other required, weekly/monthly maintenance plans.
