Electrical Engineer

Job summary

Reports to the Project Lead / Senior Discipline Engineer / Manager on site. Oversees reviews, manages, and monitors implementation of the construction documents on site. Responsible to manage teams of discipline inspectors on site. Supports the Project Lead / Senior Discipline Engineer / Manager technically and liaises with the design office contractor and client counterparts to ensure that the construction is carried out in accordance with plans and specifications.

Job duties

The incumbent performs a broad cross-section of complex technical and administrative activities requiring extensive experience and specialization in contract compliance quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) inspection of electrical scope related to the project.

• Analyses applicable codes, standards, and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents.
• Interprets or clarifies contract documents for contractors.
• Maintains and prepares a variety of records including daily/weekly progress reports, material accounting records, change orders, and record drawings.
• Provides assistance to the Project Engineer / Site Engineer.
• Responsible for supervising, directing, and coordinating the inspection team.
• Conducts weekly meetings with inspectors and Project Engineer.
• Ensures that responses are complete and in compliance with the contract documents. Where problems are found, works with Project Engineer to resolve.
• Audits inspections for conformity to contract documents and contractor submitted plans.
• Assists the Senior Discipline Engineer to identify, respond to, or evaluate technical issues to maintain the schedule.
• Highlights any violations to construction/engineering related issues on site through issuance of NCRs.
• Attends progress review meetings and coordination meetings to assist the Project Lead / Senior Engineer in resolving any site issues such as discrepancies in project drawings.
• Participates in the coordination and monitoring of snagging and project handover.
• Provides support to Resident Engineer / Team Lead to ensure projects run smoothly by providing expert knowledge and advice.
• Liaises with the Design Engineer on modifications if required.
• Gives daily site reports and highlights issues that arise on site to the Project Lead.
• Contributes in the preparation of all kinds of reports as directed by the Project Lead.
• Monitors health and safety of the construction works and reports on the same. If required, stops the construction works if unsafe practices are being followed.

Specific skills required

• Site experience in basic design requirements, estimation, installation, and all site activities related to all electrical works for construction of large-scale building projects.
• Familiar with all the electrical engineering methodologies as well as the corresponding equipment, materials, consumables, tools, and manpower allocations related to electrical works for building projects.
• Well versed in interpreting and executing electrical related drawings.
• Knowledge of the related authorities' requirements.
• High-rise residential and commercial buildings experience required with strong background in start-up, execution, and handover of major projects.

Person specification (behavioural attributes)

Good team player with high energy levels. Able to supervise a team of inspectors efficiently and competently.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in Electrical or equivalent. Plus an advanced postgraduate degree and membership of a recognized institution (i.e. PE / Peng / CEng etc.) would be preferred. LEED GA or AP certifications would be a plus for MEP discipline.

Experience

Minimum 12 years demonstrable experience in the design and all aspects of supervision and project administration of the electrical works related to large-scale projects within the Middle East in the consulting industry.
