Context
• Veolia Middle East started a new contract, to operate and maintain two industrial Waste Treatment Facilities (IWTF) in Ruwais (Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates) with around 200 employees.
• The Hazardous Waste Treatment Facility (HWTF or BeAAT) includes TDU, deoiling tricanter, stabilization, class I and II landfill, PCT, mercury treatment unit, and Incineration lines with a capacity around 60 KTA;
• The Natural Occurring Radioactive Materials Treatment Facility (NORM) is a new 6,5 KTA decontamination facility, including a high pressure water descaling system, incineration and encapsulation of ashes.
Position Summary
The financial accountant will be a key contributor to the timely and accurate reporting of the company’s financial results of operations. To succeed in this position, the candidate will need to have working knowledge of accounting standards and journal entries to ensure appropriate treatment of different transactions, effective communication and time-management skills to meet deadlines, and willingness to learn new processes/procedures as well as propose improvements.
The position will be located in Ruwais (~2-hour drive from Abu Dhabi).
Areas of Responsibility
• Staff Costs: review/analyse/process/post the monthly payroll and other staff-related costs, maintain/update the relevant continuity schedules to match with the GL by posting the required JVs (e.g. amortisation of prepayments, provision for end of service, etc…).
• Expense Claims: review/analyse/process/post (when applicable) the expense claims submitted by staff through various channels ensuring proper documentation and GL Coding, in addition to timely reimbursement.
• Financial Close: maintain/update the accrued expenses and all other balance sheet schedules by posting the required JVs substantiated by proper business need justification and relevant approvals in a timely manner to ensure meeting month-close deadlines.
• Government Taxes: prepare the workings for the quarterly returns of VAT and Income Tax to be reviewed and file once approved, in addition to processing the payments for the amounts due and posting the required JVs.
• Revenue & Customers: prepare the quarterly/monthly sales invoices according to procedures to be reviewed and send to customers once approved, in addition to ensuring timely collection as per contracts and posting the required JVs.
• Related Parties: reconcile balances and post required JVs for transactions with related parties including interest expense on shareholders’ loan.
• IFRS 16 Leases: update the lease tool and post the required JVs on a monthly basis.
• Banking: perform the weekly bank reconciliation and post the required JVs.
• Annual audit: support with the annual audit procedures as required.
• Other: support with other tasks and deliverables as required.
Requirements:
Qualifications and experience:• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, a professional accounting qualification or equivalent
• 5 -7 years of relevant experience for a manufacturing/industrial company in a similar position.
• Proficiency in ERPs (BC365 preferred) and Google Suite / MS Office.
• Professional certification (e.g., CMA, DipIFR, ACCA) is desirable.
Skills and Personal attributes:
• Clear understanding of accounting entries for different transactions as per accounting standards.
• Highly organized, detail oriented with problem solving mindset, and keen to meet deadlines.
• Strong sense of ownership and commitment to deliver on assigned responsibilities.
• Tech savvy with the ability to learn new systems and spot inefficiencies to propose improvements.
• Maintain professional relationships internally and externally (e.g. other departments, customers, related parties, banks, auditors, etc…)
• Ethical conduct and compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
