JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE
The Financial Reporting Specialist is the single point of ownership for month-end close and management reporting. The role ensures that financial reports are accurate, timely, standardized, and decision-ready, enabling management to monitor performance, act without delay, and maintain strong execution and compliance throughout the reporting process.
This role exists to eliminate reporting bottlenecks, separate reporting from day-to-day transaction processing, and improve the overall quality and reliability of financial insights.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Month-End Close & Reporting Ownership
• Own the month-end closing process and timetable, from pre-close checks to final report issuance
• Prepare and deliver monthly management reports, including:
- Profit & Loss
- Balance Sheet
- Cash flow summaries
- AR and AP aging
- Key operational and financial KPIs
• Ensure reports are delivered within agreed deadlines, with minimal post-close adjustments
• Coordinate inputs from AP, AR, and Senior Accountant to ensure completeness and accuracy
2. Financial Analysis & Management Commentary
• Perform variance analysis against prior periods, budget, and expectations
• Provide clear, concise explanations for material movements
• Identify trends, risks, inconsistencies, or unusual items
• Support the Finance Manager with insights, not just raw numbers
3. Data Validation & Reconciliations
• Review general ledger balances prior to reporting
• Perform and/or review key balance sheet reconciliations
• Ensure consistency across ERP, CRM, and reporting outputs
• Proactively flag data integrity issues and recommend corrective actions
4. Reporting Standards & Process Improvement
• Develop, maintain, and improve standardized report templates
• Document reporting logic, assumptions, and definitions
• Shorten the reporting cycle through better structure, automation, and coordination
• Support continuous improvement of the month-end close process
5. Cross-Functional & Backup Support
• Act as a reporting “floater”, capable of supporting the accounting team during absences or peak periods
• Work closely with the Senior Accountant on escalations and complex items
• Support audits, management reviews, and compliance-related reporting when required
Requirements:
Education & Technical Competencies:• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Strong understanding of financial statements and reporting principles
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
• Hands-on experience with accounting/ERP systems and data extraction
• Solid knowledge of month-end close processes
• Hands-on exposure to Zoho Analytics or comparable BI software (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, etc.)
• Ability to understand data models, reporting logic, and dashboard structures
• Experience translating operational data into meaningful management reports
• Familiarity with data extraction, transformation, and validation for BI reporting purposes
Experience:
• 3–5 years experience in accounting or financial reporting
• Prior exposure to management reporting and analysis
• Accounting Experience is an advantage
Personal Attributes:
• High level of integrity and confidentiality
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Detail-oriented, structured, and deadline-driven
• Able to operate independently with minimal supervision
• Comfortable handling sensitive financial and performance data
• Excellent communication skills
