Head, Group Special Assets Management (GSAM) - Middle East
The Role Responsibilities
* Ensure that individual account risks are correctly and timely assessed, and that appropriate account strategies are formulated and executed diligently.
* Maintain direct involvement and up to date understanding of all large/high impact GSAM accounts in the Middle East.
* Recognize loan impairments promptly; quantify/substantiate them in a rigorous manner.
* Exercise sound judgment and good business sense and risk awareness in all decisions.
* Work with the business and risk areas, group legal, and product partners to maintain current knowledge of market trends, complex structures and relevant legal concepts in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for the Bank.
* Communicate effectively remotely and in person with relevant internal and external stakeholders to provide information (as appropriate) regarding the GSAM ME portfolio and loan impairment decisions and outlook.
* Participate in creditor committees, lender meetings, etc.
* Manage costs effectively to ensure budgets are met; monitor appropriateness and levels of discretionary spend by the team.
* Ensure accuracies and timely data and MIS are maintained for the GSAM ME portfolio
* Have a commanding knowledge and understanding of all GSAM policies and procedures; ensure they are rigorously followed by the team.
* Have a strong knowledge relevant Bank risk policies and processes.
* Ensure that all staff members are compliant with all Conduct and Compliance policies and procedures; maintain controls to monitor adherence.
* Understand the Bank's Operational Risk Framework and ensure that controls are effectively maintained.
* Interact with and manage auditors, regulators and other critical external stakeholders, fostering a constructive working relationship with them.
* Provide clear direction and context to the GSAM team in the Middle East. Act as a role model in the maintenance of high work standards, integrity and professionalism.
* Promote the develop of team member's skills and careers within the bank through articulate training plans, secondments, etc.
* Share experiences and lessons learned with internal constituencies outside GSAM in order to expand their risk knowledge base.
* Contribute to the formulation and introduction of Group / functional policies, as may be required
REQUIREMENTS
Our Ideal Candidate
* Substantial experience (in excess of 10 years' relevant practice) with distressed asset management.
* Substantial experience in the banking industry.
* Sharp business acumen (including ability to assess risk and appropriate levels of return), strong leadership qualities, excellent interpersonal skills and multi cultural awareness and sensitivity.
* Understanding of best practice risk management techniques and frameworks.
* Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence and resilience.
* Personal authority with proven ability to establish relationships and provide strong direction at the most senior levels of the Group and with regulators and other external stakeholders.
