JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE
A start up investment management firm from Asia is setting up an office in the DIFC and this role will essentially be employee number 2. It is therefore a wonderful opportunity to take complete ownership of the legal inhouse function and set up the department from scratch. Working alongside the Operations Manager and reporting directly into the CEO, it is essential that you have local UAE and Middle East legal exposure, either in-house or within a law firm. Candidates from the DIFC financial service sector are expected to be successful in this new position.
Supporting the organisation with fund management, the development of investment structures, international and local compliance, corporate and commercial agreements and governance, the Legal Counsel will also offer legal advice and guidance to the investment team and seniors. Managing relationships with external legal counsels, remaining competent and updated on relevant market trends and regulatory changes within the DIFC, DFSA and other additional jurisdictions from the investment portfolio, will all fall under the responsibilities of this new position.
With other locations in Singapore, the organisation has future growth plans for the DIFC location and therefore this role can also offer potential growth and future management of a legal support team. This position is one of the keys to the success of the organisation and as such you will be heavily relied upon to provide information, training, and easily digestible explanations to non-legal executives in the team from junior to senior C-suite level. You will be an excellent communicator and able to collaborate across all levels of seniority with ease to share your legal expertise. Fostering an environment of continuous improvement, identifying and mitigating risks through the development of internal legal policies and procedures, you will also manage relationships with external legal advisors to ensure they are both cost effective and providing high quality and complaint work.
Requirements:
To apply for this position, it is required that you have a minimum of 5 years overall legal exposure, of which a minimum of 2 years must be within financial or fund investment organisations in the DIFC. Holding a minimum educational level of LLB, you will bring exceptional attention to detail, with high levels of integrity, ethics, and trust. As this role is a stand alone Inhouse Legal Counsel at this time, you should be highly self-motivated and disciplined. Excellent communication skills in English, additionally those with a native or complete fluency in Arabic are highly advantageous.ABOUT THE COMPANY
