The role

To support the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring that the school’s grounds, buildings, plant and equipment are well maintained, well presented, physically secure, compliant with all appropriate regulations and provide a safe environment for the school community.

Key responsibilities

Functional responsibilities

  • Joinery, carpentry, repairing furniture, doors, locks, curtains, lights, vehicles, plant, equipment and other tasks which may arise
  • Ensure that the school is maintained to the same high standard
  • Lock/unlock gates; procure and collect building and maintenance materials required for jobs; wash and clean external walls of all buildings; check playground equipment
  • Oversee carrying out pool testing daily; maintain pool within safe required limits. Oversee regular back washing, cleaning filters and pumps as scheduled
  • Cyclical preventative maintenance jobs as scheduled, including gutter and roof cleaning, windows, painting
  • Daily follow-up on any matters raised by security contractor, caretaker, cleaners etc.
  • Track inventory of trade supplies for building, plumbing and electrical, for repairs and work requests as required
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures. Report all known and observed hazards to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Participate as a team and perform hands-on (and as detailed below, but not limited to):
    • Rubbish bins, recycling bins
    • Logistics: movement and delivery of parcels around campuses as required
    • Daily delivery of papers, milk, post (pick-up from Australia Post) where required
    • Assist sports, music and development office staff with transporting of equipment where required
    • Track inventory of cleaning supplies
    • Maintain grounds including but not limited to gardens, lawns, ovals, including mowing, watering, weeding, fertilizing, planting, pruning
    • Clear external drains, sweep paved areas and ensure that litter is removed from garden areas
    • Maintain garden equipment and appropriately store garden implements and chemicals
    • Ensure that environmental sustainability is practiced
  • Responsible for understanding and applying the schools child protection policies and procedures, including identifying and reporting risks, identifying child abuse indicators, management of disclosures, and internal and external reporting obligations.
  • Where students are under their care, taking all practicable measures to protect students where a risk to their safety has been identified
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Observe health and safety policy
  • Report all known or observed hazards to Operations Manager
  • Conduct site safety inductions for all contractors to the school
  • Safety inductions carried out and documented
