Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Piping Materials Engineer as part of our Engineering team within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based full time at our Engineering Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Job role:

The Principal Piping Material Engineer will be responsible for leading the piping material engineering activities for various projects. This role involves ensuring the selection, specification, and procurement of piping materials meet project requirements, industry standards, and client expectations. The Principal Piping Material Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

The Principal Piping Material Engineer will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the Piping Material Engineering Team on the assigned project including scope, budget, deliverables, schedule, and coordination of activities in consultation with the Discipline Manager and Project Engineering Manager. The Principal Piping Material Engineer will be responsible for review of engineering and design quality, technical accuracy of drawings, material quantities, specifications, procedures, etc. produced within the piping discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance in the selection and specification of piping materials for projects.
  • Material selection: Evaluate and select appropriate piping materials based on project requirements, environmental conditions, and industry standards.
  • Specification development: Develop detailed piping material specifications, including material grades, standards, and codes. Develop data sheets. Pipe wall thickness calculations for internal, external pressure, and full vacuum conditions. Miter bend, RF pad calculations. Designing of specialties such as split tees for hot tapping.
  • Technical bid evaluation: Conduct technical evaluations of bids from suppliers to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Material requisition: Prepare and issue material requisitions for piping materials, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Drawing approvals: Review and approve vendor drawings and documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Procurement support: Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of piping materials.
  • Quality assurance: Ensure all piping materials meet quality standards and project specifications through rigorous inspection and testing.
  • Project coordination: Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of piping materials into project designs.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., ASME, ASTM, API).
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including material data sheets, specifications, and reports.
  • Problem solving: Address and resolve technical issues related to piping materials during project execution.
  • Continuous improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in piping materials and technologies, and implement best practices to improve project outcomes.

Expected:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in piping material engineering, with a focus on large-scale projects in the industry such as oil and gas, petrochemical, or power generation.
  • Technical skills: In-depth knowledge of piping materials, standards, and codes (e.g., ASME, ASTM, API). Proficiency in material selection and specification development.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to address and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Software proficiency: Familiarity with engineering software and material management tools.
