Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is seeking applications for a full-time research assistant to investigate the production of novel edible non-digestible fiber through enzymes and their effect on gut-induced immunity markers. The successful candidate will be offered a two years position in a research project supported by a UAEU research council.
The candidate will be involved in a project investigating the synthesis of diverse fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) by enzymes/microorganisms and their effect on gut microbiota-related immunity in mice models. The goal of the project is to exploit the unique nature of fructosyltransferase enzymes with the probability of producing unique oligo/polysaccharides for the modulation of gut microbiota and gut-induced immunity. Molecular biology techniques coupled with genome data analysis and physical techniques like XRD, MS, and NMR to evaluate gut-induced immunity and for the characterization of enzymatic products will be used in the project.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualification
Highly self-motivated candidates with Masters/M.phil in Biochemistry/Biotechnology with a strong academic track record and relevant experience in molecular biology (cloning, electrophoresis, protein purification, enzyme assays, western blotting), NMR, basic bioinformatics, and mice handling techniques are encouraged to apply. Practical experience with XRD and MS would be advantageous.
Preferred Qualification
Candidates with experience in PCR, electrophoresis, western blotting, microbial cell culture, protein purification techniques, enzyme assays, TLC, mice handling techniques, genome data analysis, and NMR are required. However, candidates having experience in XRD, MS, and homology modeling would be preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work well in a collaborative environment with skills in networking are highly advantageous.
