JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

1. Provide general advice on physical and procedural security within the embassy

2. Recruit & supervise the guards on contractual assignments.

3. Supervise and, where necessary, arrange maintenance of security fences, walls, railings, gates and any other barriers

4. Responsible for access control on a daily basis to mission buildings and confidential areas

5. To conduct periodic patrols of the compound and mission offices during and out of office hours

6. To prepare breach reports on anyone found committing a breach of security.

7. To conduct periodical physical security checks of residences, including security surveys of any property being purchased or leased.

8. To visit the offices of the British Council on a regular basis to advise on security issues and procedures

9. Liaison with Local Police, Diplomatic Protection Branch and local Security staff at the US or other friendly missions, in liaison with the Regional Overseas Security Manager

10. Assist with visits of Overseas Security Advisors.

11. Conduct emergency practice drills.

12. Account for, and be able to operate and arrange maintenance of security equipment
(Metal detector archways, handheld detectors, mail scanners and radios)

13. Act as the deputy Fire and Health and Safety Officer

14. Responsible for examining suspect parcels and letters for improvised explosive devices

15. Carry out investigations on any breach of security into embassy and staff accommodation with police assistance if required

16. Issue and maintain Security Guard Standing Instructions for the Main Gate, Visa Section and Consular Section, reviewing and updating where necessary

17. If required assist the accountant in providing escorts to the bank

18. Liaise with traffic police when necessary, especially in cases of accidents.

19. Assist in planning of overall security measures and for implementing of security policies and directives

20. Draft reports on security matters (including incident returns)

21. Physical security checks of the residence and other staff accommodation

22. Control of routine searches for arms and explosive devices

23. Safe hand deliveries of classified material (up to Confidential only)

24. Assisting with destruction of classified waste

25. Miscellaneous security related administrative duties where they do not interfere with the above listed responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

A mature and responsible attitude to work .

Honesty and integrity.

Reasonable levels of physical fitness.

The ability to write short reports and follow written instructions.

The ability to use your initiative and make quick decisions to deal with unexpected situations

Candidates with considerable amount of prior experience ( 8-15 years) in this role would be an ideal fit for the position.

Salary & Employment:

We can only offer you a job if you are already legally present in UAE. Employment by Her Majesty's Government in a locally engaged capacity, does not afford employees any special immunities or privileges, or protection against legal action. Conditions of service for all locally employed staff in UAE are consistent with UAE laws and regulations.

The starting salary for this job is between AED 9,170 - 11,150 per month depending on experience and skill.

Normal working hours for the Embassy is 0730 to 1430 Sunday to Thursday. However, there may be a requirement for working on Saturday with a compensatory day off during the week. There may also be a requirement for shift working.
