JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

• Develops and ensures the implementation and evaluation of standards of patient care delivery.
• Leads and directs the delivery of nursing services in OPD to meet the varying needs of patients and family; provides or supports training to staff as needed.
• Effective staff management to ensure utilization of positions assigned to the unit to best meet the needs of the patient population served.
• Oversees staff utilization and collaborates with other ward Managers to ensure proper clinical coverage for the scope of patient care required.
• Engages medical staff in relation to patient status to other levels of care when there is a change in patient condition.
• Ensures that any potential risk to patients, visitors and all staff are identified, action taken as required and the relevant incident reporting procedures are adhered to
• Co coordinating the involvement of the multidisciplinary team within Outpatient department area to ensure safe effective clinical practice
• Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
• Ability to contain sensitive and difficult patient issues in ambulatory care setting with direct intervention and management under confidential status
• Conduct and report on investigations into complaints and adverse incidents and identify opportunities for shared learning from complaints and incidents

REQUIREMENTS

• OPD Senior Charge Nurse is responsible for the supervision, coordination and maintenance of patient safety on the unit, ensure that nursing practice and care is evidence based and is delivered in accordance with SKGH practice guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Licensed.
• Minimum 8 yrs. experience in clinical care and / or Supervisory roles within Nursing Administration.
• Demonstrates evidence of a good overview of the service and the reporting structures.
• Demonstrate quality improvement and understanding of governance and complaint management issues.
• Demonstrates evidence-based clinical knowledge in making decisions regarding patient and family care.
• Demonstrates evidence of advanced computer skills such as excel.
• Demonstrates respect for others: support one another, celebrate successes, and accept differences.
• Demonstrates a focus on quality with knowledge of Accreditation process.
