Senior Group Underwriter

JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

The Senior Underwriting Officer will provide strategic, commercial, and financial advice by evaluating and managing financial risks associated with policies.

The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing statistical data and constructing probability tables to forecast risk and liability for payment of future benefits.

What you do:

  • Analyze statistical data to determine the probability of risks or financial impact.
  • Ascertain premium rates required and cash reserves and liabilities necessary to ensure payment of future benefits.
  • Collaborate with programmers, underwriters, accounts, claims experts, and senior management to help companies develop plans for new lines of business or improving existing business.
  • Design, review, and help administer insurance policies, determining financial soundness and calculating premiums.
  • Determine policy contract provisions for all types of insurance.
  • Develop systems to ensure compliance with the requirements of regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in the development of new products.
  • Assure continuous technical profitability to risk carriers (insurance and reinsurance companies).
  • Provide continuous and effective visibility to risk carriers on their portfolio status.
  • Conduct pricing review, analysis, and development.
  • Provide early warnings and issue recommendations on corrective measures.
  • Assure high retention of clients and reinsurers.
  • Collaborate with reinsurers, the underwriting community of the group, programmers, local underwriters, accounts, claims experts, and senior management to help internal departments adopt best practices.
  • Construct probability tables based on statistical data analysis and other pertinent information.
  • Provide expertise to management to manage risks and maximize returns associated with investment products or credit offerings.
  • Conduct valuations of assets and liabilities.
  • Provide expert advice on investment strategies.
  • Assess the profitability of an investment portfolio.
  • Measure, monitor, and mitigate portfolio and enterprise risks.
  • Oversee asset and liability modeling, product development, and profit testing.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree; certification in actuarial science background preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role; insurance industry experience is a plus.
  • Physically fit to carry out duties.
  • Legally permitted to work in the country of operations.
  • Fluency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and general internet navigation and research skills.
