JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE
Job summary:
The senior planning engineer is responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure efficient execution of civil construction projects. The role requires expertise in project scheduling, progress tracking, risk management, and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective project completion.
Key responsibilities:
1. Project planning & scheduling:
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules (Primavera P6/MS Project) based on contract requirements.
Establish project baselines and ensure alignment with project scope, budget, and deliverables.
Identify critical paths and ensure proactive measures to mitigate delays.
Integrate engineering, procurement, and construction schedules for an accurate project timeline.
2. Progress monitoring & reporting:
Track project progress and update schedules accordingly.
Prepare and present periodic progress reports including earned value management (EVM) analysis.
Highlight potential risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Maintain accurate records of delays, disruptions, and claims for contractual purposes.
3. Resource & cost management:
Coordinate with project teams to ensure proper allocation of manpower, materials, and equipment.
Assist in preparing cash flow forecasts and monitoring budgeted vs. actual expenditures.
Support cost control measures and recommend corrective actions to prevent cost overruns.
4. Risk management & delay analysis:
Identify potential project risks and provide risk mitigation plans.
Conduct forensic delay analysis and prepare extension of time (EOT) claims.
Coordinate with contract and commercial teams on claims and variations.
5. Coordination & stakeholder management:
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure project milestones are met.
Attend progress meetings with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
Communicate planning related requirements and strategies effectively to all stakeholders.
Qualifications & skills:
Education & experience:
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
8-12 years of experience in planning and scheduling within a civil contracting company.
Strong knowledge of Primavera P6, MS Project, and Excel.
Experience in high-rise buildings is preferred.
Familiarity with FIDIC contracts and construction claims.
Key skills:
Robotics, electrical engineering, GIS, C/C++, technical writing, Visio, special operations, telecommunication, geometry, oil & gas experience, MPLS, systems analysis.
