Senior Shipping/Export/Import Manager with strong chartering experience

A large diversified industrial enterprise of the Middle East is looking for a Senior Shipping Exports/Imports manager to become part of the team.
The ideal candidate will have great experience in the running of Panamax vessels and the main focus of the role will be to manage the end to end shipping requirements process for the import and export of bulk raw commodities. Primarily an office based role the major challenge will be planning just in time shipments.

Responsibilities will include:
• Analysing the international shipping markets to understand Market fluctuations and vessel availability.
• Ensuring best prices are achieved when selecting Charter to fix for shipment.
• Liaising with trading team to determine shipment requirements
• Negotiate and confirm contractual terms for shipping requirements with shipping companies ensuring risk is managed and credit terms are flexible.
• Plan and manage time charter shipments, arrange fuel requirements for vessels and liaise with external third party company responsible for monitoring ship performance.
• Monitor the progress of all shipments and liaise with the vessel owners, port authorities, trading teams and GGE operations teams to ensure that any delays are communicated.
• Manage the disputes process relating to any delays with the time charters and any ship damage, ensuring settlements are made in a timely fashion with minimum impact on the business.
• Monitor insurance claims and negotiate annual insurance premiums.
• Build relationships with shipping suppliers to ensure vessel availability and develop flexible payment terms to maximize the cash flow within the business and ensure shipping requirements are met.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in large scale shipping/charterer office.
• Experience of working in large export/import firm responsible for shipping or working for a large ship owner or in a charter office with time charter vessels.
• Extensive knowledge of the shipping industry and charter fixing requirements
• Ability to liase with multiple internal and external agencies.
• Excellent commercial awareness.
• Effective planning, implementation and time management in all areas of the role.
• Strong customer service and relationship building skills essential.

Key decisions to be made will include:
• Price and type of charter for vessels required to import and export bulk raw commodities.
• Price and logistics of fuel to meet time charter requirements.
• The basis of any claims/settlements regarding time charter performance and ship damage.
• Terms and conditions outlined in shipment contracts.
• Disputes/claims in voyage charters.

Education:
• Bachelors degree in business management/logistics is preferred.
• Membership of ICS or equivalent experience is essential – Fellow of ICS would be an advantage.
