Job description

WSP is seeking a site mechanical engineer who will be responsible for managing and overseeing mechanical aspects including piping of sewage and wastewater projects from inception to completion. The candidate shall work closely with the project manager ensuring that all mechanical systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with the project specifications, drawings, and relevant codes and standards. The candidate shall ensure timely completion of project milestones within the allocated budget and regularly report on project progress to the applicable stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Project management:

  • Collaborate with project managers to develop mechanical project plans and schedules in line with the project schedule.
  • Ensure the timely completion of mechanical project milestones within the allocated budget.
  • Regularly report on project progress to the relevant stakeholders.

Mechanical system installations:

  • Review and interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications related to all mechanical items (static & rotary, fabrication, etc.) for sewage and wastewater projects.
  • Support in review of sequencing batch reactor (SBR) technology documents.
  • Supervise the on-site installations of mechanical systems including piping, diffusers, blowers, valves, pumps, process equipment, HVAC, firefighting systems, etc.
  • Identify and report any defects, deficiencies, or deviations from the project specifications and drawings.
  • Provide valuable input into the design phase to optimize mechanical systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with local mechanical codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the project team to resolve any mechanical-related issues that may arise during construction or installation.
  • Maintain a proper non-compliance register and raise NCRs.
  • Provide valuable inputs during troubleshooting activities (if required) along with overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance activities (if any).
  • Maintain accurate records of mechanical system installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Review and finalize as-built drawings.

Team leadership:

  • Lead and motivate a team of mechanical technicians and support staff.
  • Participate in site meetings, progress meetings, and other project-related meetings as required.
  • Offer guidance, training, and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety and professionalism within the team.

Quality assurance:

  • Establish and maintain robust quality control procedures for mechanical work.
  • Ensure adherence to project quality standards for mechanical items.

Safety and compliance:

  • Ensure that all mechanical-related activities are executed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and compliance during installation and testing of mechanical equipment at the project site.
  • Investigate and report any safety incidents or near misses.

Budget management:

  • Efficiently manage the mechanical project budget and control.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.

Qualifications

  • Experience in sewage treatment plant and treated sewage effluent (TSE) pipeline installation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management and team leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging construction environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of mechanical engineering experience, with a focus on sewage treatment projects, water, and wastewater.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in sewage/wastewater treatment plants.
  • Profound knowledge of mechanical systems, codes, and standards.
  • Professional engineering license preferred.
  • Professional registration in the Saudi Council of Engineers is preferred.
