Overview of the role

The role involves managing work using the allocated workforce to ensure tasks are completed within scheduled timelines, while coordinating closely with the project planner or project manager to plan activities at least a month in advance. It includes scheduling material deliveries in line with the project programme, and supporting commercial functions by monitoring preliminary project costs versus actual expenditure. The position is also responsible for achieving productivity targets, managing resources within tendered limits, and minimizing material wastage. Additionally, the planning function must continually track and review project progress against the agreed timetable.

What you will do

Responsible for:

• Planning, coordinating and reviewing the progress of the construction programme, taking any necessary corrective action to meet and where possible, exceed the expectation of the client
• Determining resource requirements for works, including defining future personnel requirements
• Through progress meetings with individuals and where necessary, multiple trades, ensuring that all sub-contractors have all the necessary resources and information to deliver the programme of work
• Ensuring compliance with the contract drawings and specifications, together with the employer’s requirements and contractors proposals
• Being accountable for specific areas of responsibility and deliverables and managing the associated risks
• Delivering activities to support operational objectives for their specific contract, project or specialism
• Inputting to planning activities with horizons of typically 6 months to one year
• Operating with agreed operational and/or management guidelines
• Interacting with clients or users around specific works efforts and deliverables
• Managing the activities of others to meet deadlines and quality standards taking account of impact outside area of responsibility
• Focusing work predominantly against defined targets but performing a range of tasks from complex to straightforward
• Ensuring that all relevant safety, quality and environmental procedures, instructions and controls are adhered to so that the safety, quality of services and environmental compliance can be guaranteed within AFC

What equips you for the role

Minimum qualifications and knowledge:

• Qualified Civil Engineer / Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Civil
• Exposure interacting with clients, contractors

Minimum experience:

• 8 years of work experience, of which 5 years directly managing the project site
