JOB DESCRIPTION / ROLE

Employment: Full Time

Purpose:
- Implement and maintain an environmental management system that complies to international standards (ISO 14001) and enables EGA to comply with all local and federal environmental regulations; and, ensure that all environmental aspects and its impact is updated yearly.
- To liaise with all environmental regulatory authorities, including industry associations and maintain timely and proactive communication with them to support operations in maintaining ongoing compliance with legal and other relevant environmental requirements/obligations.

Key accountabilities:
- Develop a spill prevention, spill response and spill disposal systems for both solid and liquid materials used in EGA. The system shall conform to local legal requirements and international best practices.
- Establish, maintain and update a register of Environment-legal and other requirements that are applicable to the activities /products and services of EGA and maintain the register up to date at least on a half yearly basis.
- Identify the various permits, approvals, licenses or authorizations required by EGA’s Operations from the federal/local environmental authorities and ensure that such permits/approvals/licenses are obtained or renewed, as the case may be on time and maintain an up-to-date data base.
- Establish and maintain a good network for the Company through local and federal Environmental Protection agencies and ensure that the Company is kept abreast of any developments.
- Ensure and maintain all documents related to external and internal communications on environment, permits and complaints are kept in a central register, and all required environmental reports for local authorities are timely sent on regular basis as required.
- The job holder must understand EGA’s core values, EHS Policies, objectives and targets and the roles and responsibilities of different individuals within the organisation on Environmental Management Systems.
- The job holder participates and assists in the formulation of environment policies, strategies relating to waste management and legal compliance through collaboration with the Manager-Environment and other staff in the department.
- Achieve agreed objectives as measured by key performance indicators (KPIs) which have been established for the area of responsibility.
- The job holder must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules, codes, regulations, procedures and guidelines of the federal, local lenders, and international Environmental guidelines and regulations
- The job holder must establish strong relationship and ties with government agencies, environment related agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Review/Assess with Waste Management department to ensure that all applicable regulations are compiled and waste disposal permit conditions are implemented and followed
- Liaise with applicable government authorities to obtain environmental approvals / clearance for all environmental issues with regards to major projects or change in process, modification to plants, equipment, installation etc.
- Assist EGA management in any Environmental impact assessment.
- Interact with local community in order to establish EGA environmental brand value.

REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry or Related field
- 5-7 years’ experience in similar role in a large industry preferably in an Aluminium Industry.

Skills:
- Strong Experience in relationship building with government agencies is preferred
- Exposure to ISO systems
- Ability to draft standard operating procedures proposals and procedures,
- Reading and interpreting laws, rules and regulations, communicating both orally and in writing sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Ability to organize and complete tasks,
- Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic (preferred)
- Proven ability in the writing of documents such as minutes of meetings,
- Strong computer competency and related skills,
