The role

Construction Director - Airport

This is an opportunity to take an influential role in a multi-billion dollar airport redevelopment programme due to commence in Auckland, New Zealand.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Reporting to the programme director team, responsible for the strategy and delivery of all parts of the programme.
• Directing the delivery aspect of this aviation project, developing the clients’ strategy, through to assisting in the appointment of the extended professional team of local and international consultants and contractors.
• Working closely with the client, responsible for all construction deliverables for the scheme including programme, budget, quality and safety.
• Guiding the provision of a safe working environment in the execution of managed work.
• Reviewing and accepting related project delivery plans submitted by contractors.
• Identifying potential programme issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions.
• Understanding and fully implementing project procedures for all contractors.
• Setting up clear lines of communication with consultants and contractors to address shortfalls and issues that may arise in a timely manner.
• Providing advice to project teams on planned logistics arrangements and contractual matters.
• Managing and developing the team to deliver their pre-defined objectives and providing support to team members where necessary.
• Delivering regular progress reports on change including relevant risks and issues.
• Producing informative, concise reports as required.
• Reviewing and monitoring handover schedule and manage any outstanding issues in a timely manner.
• Engaging with HR on all aspects of recruitment and personnel management.

Requirements

Your experience, knowledge and skills need to include:

• Previous working experience in a similar role.
• Major aviation / airport projects.
• Proven experience managing projects from start to finish.
• Expertise in building and maintaining key client relationships.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a good team player.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Knowledge of project management processes.
• Significant experience in both pre-construction and post contract services.
• Solid problem solving, decision making and analytical capabilities.
• Broad knowledge of construction techniques with high technical expertise.
• Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.

Qualifications

• A relevant degree qualification.
