Cable Design System Administrator

Job description / Role

The purpose of the position is to ensure that has a fully functional and up to date Cable Design System, that interacts seamlessly with ERP and MES, and provides correct and accurate cable designs, including BOMs and routings, to both as required, as well as provide close commercial support in the form of all documentation relating directly to cables that may be required for tendering and for customer service

Accountabilities
• Manage the selection (if required), successful installation and roll-out of the Cable Design System
• Manage the integration and transfer of data between the Cable Design System and the ERP
• Manage the integration and transfer of data between the Cable Design System and the ERP
• Maintain the Cable Design System up to date, both with internal aspects of as well as with changing national and international standards, as well as permanently operational and relevant to the needs of other departments within

A thorough understanding of, and experience with:
• Cable and overhead conductor constructions as per national and international standards.
• Manufacturing processes of LV, MV cables and overhead conductors.
• Cable design systems, enterprise resource planning systems (ERP’s) and manufacturing execution systems (MES’s).
• Experience specifically of SAP will be an advantage.

Activities require problem solving abilities. They are technically complex and involve maintaining a continuous seamless flow of information from the Cable Design System to both and ERP and an MES, while keeping the Cable Design System up to date and relevant to needs.

With respect to cable design, significant attention is required to actual site conditions, engineering, practical considerations, safety and environmental issues. Any under design may lead to system faults and over design may lead to expensive products in the competitive market. Hence reasonable experience and sufficient knowledge in cable manufacturing is required by the holder.

Requirements

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, with a thorough knowledge of cable design, and well as with cable design systems, ERP’s and MES’s.
• 15 Years experience

Job-Specific Skills:
• Proficient in the design, manufacture and testing of building wires, low voltage cables, medium voltage cables, high voltage cables, overhead conductors.
• Experience with optical fibre as a component of power cables.
• Full knowledge of raw materials used for cable constructions and latest developments.
• Experienced in the use of cable design systems, ERP systems and MES’s .
