Wood is recruiting for an electrical discipline lead to join its projects team focusing on delivering across FEED and detail design scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Definition and approval of technical scopes.
  • Executing assigned scopes of work.
  • Providing technical expertise to the business.
  • Contributing to business growth.
  • May manage and supervise teams or act as a technical specialist.

Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes, or techniques. Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, and equipment. Uses advanced technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables including complex problems and to complete any project tasks with minimal guidance and direction.

Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.

Responsibilities

The electrical discipline lead will be responsible for:

  • Creating demonstrable value for customers by understanding their drivers and critical success factors.
  • Executing technical work for FEED and detail design within designated cost, time, and resource (CTR) scopes.
  • Implementing, practicing, and monitoring quality management system (QMS) in FEED office projects in line with ISO 9001-2015 and API Q2 2nd edition requirements.
  • Carrying out appropriate discipline, inter-discipline checks, and reviews of engineering and design work and contributing to excellent HSE performance throughout the engineering phase of the project life cycle.

Typical responsibilities

  • Executing assigned scopes of work.
  • Supervising and participating in delivery of complex engineering tasks.
  • Contributing to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and complex coordination requirements.
  • Coordinating implementation of design engineering solutions.
  • Reviewing project-related documentation to ensure accuracy.
  • Supervising complex engineering tasks related to a portion of a major project.
  • Work consists of complex procedures and tasks where diagnostic ability is required to assess the situation and identify appropriate actions to follow.
  • Assignments cover broad and complex subject matter where issues and factors may be characterized by unusual demands and require additional evaluation to establish the nature and scope of the problem.
  • Exercising mature business judgment in devising practical, economical solutions.
  • Participating in incident investigations as required.
  • Assessing work against standards, aims, and specifications.
  • Adhering to and complying with relevant discipline-specific procedures and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Management of key stakeholders in the execution and delivery of contracted activities.
  • Organizing, active participation, and occasional leading of design reviews.

Providing technical expertise

  • Providing expert advice on design processes, construction methods, and other technical areas.
  • Advising on the development of new engineering methods and participating in short and long-range planning.
  • Solving problems requiring application of research data in own and allied professional disciplines; exercising mature business judgment in devising practical, economical solutions.
  • Performing the role of technical authority when appointed to do so.
  • Providing expert advice on design processes or construction methods.
  • Advising on the development of new engineering methods and participating in short and long-range planning.
  • Evaluating options and selecting technical solutions that optimize technical and financial success.
  • Acting as technical custodian for low to medium value bids and proposals.
  • Providing awareness of technical advancements and new ways to serve customer needs.
  • Helping to establish a culture of technical excellence through role modeling and communicating expectations.

Manage and supervise others

  • May be responsible for supervising technical specialists or engineers responsible for complex technical tasks.
  • Providing technical guidance and direction to teams of professional and non-professional staff.
  • Outlining requirements, assigning tasks, and supervising progress to ensure that targets and specifications are being met.
  • Providing technical direction to project team members.
  • Providing coaching and mentoring for direct reports.
  • Monitoring compliance with competence standards.
  • Participating in recruitment, selection, transfers, and promotion of resources to meet succession and business plans. Supporting the development and retention of motivated and competent people. Managing performance of direct reports.
  • Supporting and supervising tasks delegated to direct reports or respective team.
  • Managing and directing resources efficiently and effectively.

Experience:

  • Electrical engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years in FEED and minimum 10 years in oil and gas experience.
  • Good communicator with experience in leading small teams.
  • Good knowledge of CymCAP, Digsilent, PLS CAD.
