GIS Programmer

Job description / Role

• Developing GIS Applications: Design, develop, test, and implement GIS applications, tools, and functionalities to meet project requirements and stakeholder needs.
• Spatial Database Management: Manage spatial databases, including data storage, retrieval, manipulation, and optimization for efficient use in GIS applications.
• Data Analysis and Visualization: Conduct spatial analysis, data modeling, and visualization to derive insights and support decision-making processes.
• Customization and Integration: Customize and integrate GIS software packages and tools to enhance functionality and interoperability with other systems.
• GIS Programming: Write and maintain code in languages such as Microsoft .NET platform or C# for GIS application development and automation.
• Geospatial Web Development: Develop web-based GIS applications and services using technologies like RESTful APIs, XML, SOAP, JSON or OpenLayers.
• Quality Assurance and Testing: Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and performance of GIS applications through rigorous testing and quality assurance procedures.
• Documentation and Training: Document GIS application designs, workflows, and functionalities. Provide training and support to end-users as needed.
• Stay Updated: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in GIS development and spatial data management.

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 3-6 years of experience in the same field.
• Must have strong written and oral communication skills in English & Arabic.
• Proven experience in GIS application development, preferably in a professional setting.
• Proficiency in GIS software such as GeoMedia, G/Technology, ArcGlS, QGIS, Google Maps, Google Earth or similar platforms.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Microsoft .NET platform or C#.
• Experience with spatial databases (e.g., Oracle Spatial, PostgreSQL/PostGlS) and SQL query optimization.
• Knowledge and experience in developing applications using Microsoft .Net platform and Web Services using RESTful APIs, XML, SOAP or JSON.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Practical experience in editing and digitizing GIS data.
• Experience in editing data in an Enterprise Geodatabase (multi-user database).
• Good organizational skills and Ability and willingness to learn and grow professionally.
