Wood is recruiting for a Lead Project Engineer to join its Projects team focusing on delivering across FEED and detail design scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible to execute the activities and processes associated with project engineering in the NGL Acceleration Project including discipline input for pipeline, materials, and construction for the project as well as the Marjan Project. Apply and expand hands-on experience and provide technical expertise in terms of materials, corrosion and degradation mechanisms as well as mitigation plans and standards during facility and project life cycle phases and aspects for the oil and gas industry. Additionally, manage and provide the necessary support for managing and resolving internal and external interfaces with stakeholders.
Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.
Responsibilities
The Lead Project Engineer will be responsible for:
- Material engineering/selection for various projects ensuring cost-effectiveness and fit for the job.
- Developing corrosion control plans and mitigation strategies as well as inspection and monitoring plans.
- Performing coating qualifications and procedures including reviewing and writing.
- Reviewing material databases, managing documents, reviewing data, and recommending action.
- Preparing materials and welding qualification and procedures including PQRs and WPSs.
- Material examinations, testing, and NDT inspections with specific assurance to compliance with company recognized and industry standards.
- Coating qualification and selection for particular services and environments.
- Supporting integrity programs like Risk Based Inspections and Process Safety Programs and ensuring project compliance with company standards in that matter.
- Ensuring compliance to HSE and QA/QC plans as part of design and material engineering/selection.
- Implementing and qualifying HSE requirements coming under area of responsibility.
- Development of local young engineers and providing development programs.
- Wide materials experience for various services in oil and gas industry including refinery.
- Skills with industry materials types, limitations, optimum usage, and how they perform.
- Ability to recommend cost-effective selections based on performance history and project application.
- Good knowledge in relevant specifications (also related to non-metallic and composite materials).
- Experience in material selection, specification, testing and inspection of carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, duplex and super duplex, Inconel, design, maintenance, and failure investigation.
- Ensuring all designs adhere to industry standards, codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Resolving any technical challenges or conflicts that arise during the FEED/DD phase.
- Working with the team to identify technical, financial, and schedule risks at the FEED/DD stage.
- Formulating and implementing risk management plans to mitigate potential issues that could affect project delivery.
- Helping the procurement team with the selection of suppliers and vendors based on technical specifications and project requirements.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear and continuous communication throughout the FEED/DD stage.
- Delivering presentations to stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and senior management, to ensure alignment on project objectives and progress.
- Ensuring that client feedback and requirements are incorporated into the design and planning processes.
- Verifying that the design adheres to relevant industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental laws.
- Working with the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team to perform hazard identification and risk assessments during the FEED/DD phase.
- Overseeing the implementation of quality control and quality assurance processes to ensure that the project's design and documentation meet the required standards.
- Participating in quality reviews and audits of deliverables to ensure that the designs meet both internal and external standards.
- Supervising the work of subcontractors to ensure they meet project specifications and deadlines.
- Providing regular status updates to senior management and clients, highlighting milestones, potential issues, and key decisions.
- Ensuring that all project documentation is appropriately managed and that versions are properly tracked.

Experience:
- Minimum qualification is degree in engineering.
- Minimum 15 FEED/EPC projects as Lead Project Engineer.
- Experience in refinery projects.
- Experience with API, NACE, ASME, ASTM codes and standards.
- Staff development and mentoring capabilities.
- Skills with welding process and related properties.
- Good understanding of corrosion mechanisms and mitigation methods, including experience with project-related technical and materials issues.
- Skills with handling of vendor documents.
- Skilled in MS Office applications.
- Good English language understanding and writing as well as communication and computer applications.
- Good people skills and capacity to work in multi-cultural organizations.
- Minimum 2 FEED/EPC projects as Senior Material Engineer.
