Overview

Wood is recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join its Projects team, focusing on delivering across FEED and detail design scopes of work. In this role, you will be responsible for developing less complex engineering deliverables including philosophies, reports, specifications, calculations, data sheets, and technical requisitions. You will perform conventional, less complex engineering assignments that may involve equipment or product design, testing of materials, preparation of specifications, process studies, or research investigations. You will create designs, drawings, and specifications typically involving existing technology and applications. Under general supervision, you will evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Position is based in Oman for a long-term assignment.

Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for:

• Producing basic engineering deliverables such as philosophies, reports, specifications, data sheets, technical requisitions, and others.
• Performing a variety of conventional engineering tasks in line with company practices, procedures, and programs.
• Solving problems using a variety of standard methods, applying standard techniques involving only minor innovations of methodology to provide solutions to problems with a limited number of variables.
• Participating with drafters, technicians, and others to contribute to project completion.
• Coordinating work with other engineers and operating groups to facilitate participation of various organizational units.
• Performing tests and researching problems through various sources of technical information.
• Designing or modifying components and determining the intent of a specification/instruction.
• Making recommendations on the acceptability of materials supplied and work completed by contractors.
• Being responsible for studies of limited scope requiring application of prescribed methods.
• Handling problems involving existing technology and applications, but may involve non-recurring problems.
• Demonstrating judgment in determining the methods to apply to assigned tasks.

Experience:

• ISCED Level 6 Bachelor's (minimum) or Level 7 Master's (preferred) degree in engineering discipline; alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience can be used to demonstrate equivalence.
• Typically requires 5 years of progressively more responsible pertinent experience.
• Ability to create functional and cost-effective designs that meet specifications and requirements with supervision.
• Some capability for conceptualizing designs.
• Proficient in the use of design software and database systems related to engineering functions within their discipline.
• Ability to comprehend and interpret technical information applicable to their discipline.
• Able to apply academic theory in a practical context.
• Awareness of standards, processes, and procedures and how they are used in work execution.
• Developing level of knowledge of regulatory framework and associated legislation.
• Developing level of competence in own discipline in the execution of assigned tasks.
• Developing level of knowledge of industry and technology development within discipline area.
• Working knowledge of specific procedures and applications.
• Some understanding of internal economic factors affecting projects to which assigned.
• Some knowledge of competitor capabilities.
• Solid understanding of policies and procedures that apply to assignments.
