Role in the Company
To function as a Senior/Principal Materials & Corrosion Engineer for specific projects and act as a lead.
Qualification Requirement
- Degree in relevant engineering subject (B.Sc./B.Eng./M.Sc.); Chemical, Mechanical, Materials.
- Senior Engineer/Engineer shall have membership of an internationally accepted applicable professional institute.
Experience Level Needed
- Minimum 15 years of experience in Oil & Gas.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Engineering Design (Concept/FEED/Detailed Design & Operations). Experience in the Middle East is preferred.
- Work in a matrix organization and handle multiple reporting relationships and project responsibilities.
- Working effectively with diverse, multi-cultural teams, peers, and stakeholders.
- Fully conversant with all relevant International Codes Standards. Experience with Company and/or Shell Group Projects and Standards (SPs and DEPs) is strongly preferred.
General Requirement
- Fluent spoken and written English and ability to prepare clear concise reports and conduct discussions with the client/vendors, prepare minutes, and effectively close out pending issues.
- Must have sound basic skills in relevant Engineering Discipline.
- PC literate.
Specific Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in Materials Selection (Concept/FEED/Detailed Design).
- Demonstrated experience in corrosion analysis and implementing corrosion management programs.
- Demonstrated experience in validation of corrosion control, IOW, corrosion loops, and damage mechanisms.
- Demonstrated experience in cathodic protection specification, design, and installation.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting Risk Based Inspection.
- Demonstrated experience in Painting and Coatings Specification.
- Shall have experience in all ranges of metallic and non-metallic materials.
- Lead the material selection and corrosion control strategy for onshore oil and gas projects.
- Conduct technical reviews of project specifications, designs, and engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend materials suitable for various operating environments, considering factors like temperature, pressure, and corrosive media.
- Develop and implement corrosion protection systems, including coatings, cathodic protection, and chemical treatment solutions.
- Supervise and guide a multidisciplinary engineering team to meet project objectives and deadlines.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Monitor project progress and ensure technical accuracy, cost control, and adherence to schedules.
- Perform detailed failure analysis, risk assessments, and life-cycle evaluations for materials and equipment.
- Prepare and deliver comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide expertise in corrosion monitoring techniques and ensure implementation during project phases.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with standards and quality assurance procedures.
- Support internal and external audits and address any findings related to materials and corrosion management.
- Train and mentor junior engineers to build technical capabilities within the team.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Accountabilities
- Lead a team of Materials Corrosion Engineers to carry out the materials activities to generate relevant deliverables on time, meeting QMS requirements according to client requirements.
- Able to handle efficiently multiple projects.
- Ensure design integrity and deliverables quality for all areas within a project with special emphasis on interfaces.
- Ability to develop CTR based on scope of work and provide input to finalize the project execution schedule.
- Manage work assignments, workload, and work forecasting for assigned projects.
- Participate in HAZID, design reviews, HAZOP's, IPF classifications, HSE-related workshops.
- Implement/practice/monitor Quality Management System in assigned projects in line with ISO 9001.
- Ensure seamless handover of deliverables to project teams.
- Manage and control all interfaces of the related discipline with other disciplines and design product suppliers.
- Liaison with vendors, contractors, and other client personnel to satisfy the various aspects of the project.
- Preparation of requisitions and technical evaluation of subsequent bids for discipline material and equipment purchases and SACP and ICCP Cathodic Protection Systems.
- Ensure designs are executed in line with international/client/company specifications, standards, and procedures.
- Provide feedback on improvement to the applicable design standards.

- Understanding of NDT techniques and in-service application of NDT.
- Defect assessment techniques in accordance with relevant codes/standards and API 579.
- Process engineering flow schemes (PEFS/P&IDs).
- Material input to static & rotating equipment data sheets/specifications.
- Material input to piping/pipeline data sheets/specifications.
- Material selection diagram.
- Corrosion inhibition system design & testing.
- Non-metallic materials qualification/testing.
- Coating selection & application.
- Corrosion inhibitor testing & selection.
- Skilled in cathodic protection specification and design.
- Welding, fabrication, and inspection procedures.
- Corrosion management framework.
- Cost optimization based on best engineering practices.
- Ability to conduct integrity and technical audit.
- Technical bid evaluation/vendor document review.
- Software applications.
- Conversant with the below software:
- ECE-5 Corrosion Modelling Software.
- Shell Hydrocorr.
- Bentley Asset Performance software.
- SAP.
