Project Specialist

Job description / Role

• To provide design solutions in piping, mechanical equipment and steel structures on engineering projects and on an ad hoc basis, as required
• To trouble shoot problems in the plant to optimize the performance of the equipment and minimize downtimes
• To coach the project engineers in the preparation of technical specifications and scope of works
• Transfer technical knowledge to the engineering staff through training sessions and on-the-job coaching
• Develop and deliver technical training modules on concepts used in project management
• To prepare and update Engineering Standards to be used on projects
• To prepare Scope of Works for complex projects
• To prepare method statements and risk analysis
• Accountable to the Superintendent in managing major projects
• Review and approve engineering and construction drawings
• Review and approve consultant’s specifications and designs for compliance to Sohar Aluminium Standards
• Ensure that Sohar Aluminium’s high EHS standards are embedded in the project plans, designs and construction activities
• To assist in the preparation and updating of Engineering Standards

Requirements

• Bachelor in Engineering (Mechanical) with 8 years experience in a processing or manufacturing company
• Technology: High degree of competence in piping, industrial equipment, electrical principles and structural design.
• Business knowledge: Sound understanding of project management, business concepts, production processes and production requirements.
• Strong commitment to EHS principles and to lead and motivate others to work safely.
• Fluent in the written and spoken English language with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical people.

About the Company

Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman and is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto.

The smelter has an annual production capacity of 375,000 tonnes of high quality Aluminium.
