Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior process engineer with process engineering experience in utilities of a refinery and/or petrochemical plants. The process engineer should have rich experience in:
- Desalination systems (multiple effect distillation and reverse osmosis)
- Demineralization systems (ion exchange resin and electro de-ionization)
- Boiler feed water systems, auxiliary boilers, and waste heat boilers
- Steam network systems
- Cooling towers and closed loop secondary cooling water systems
- Power generation systems
Experience in wastewater treatment units would be an added advantage. The process engineer should be well versed in troubleshooting, process optimization, feasibility studies, FEED, design, commissioning, and performance testing.
Responsibilities
Executing assigned scopes of work:
- Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment.
- Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
- Ensures successful completion of the assigned project or phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
- Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work.
- Evaluates problems, organizes investigations, and establishes general performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc.
- Checks engineering calculations as well as all drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards; assists with the development of less senior technical professionals.
- Adheres to and complies with relevant discipline-specific procedures and provides feedback for continuous improvement.
- Participates in audits and incident investigations as required.
- Performs complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects.
- Participates in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews, and other workshops as required.
- Organizes and actively participates in design reviews.
Providing discipline expertise:
- Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating and selecting technical strategic options.
- Modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways, and draws conclusions from comparative situations as necessary.
- Regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor to a major complex problem or project.
- Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches.
- Consistently called on to use creativity and professional judgment to formulate results based on engineering standards, experience, and constructive thinking.
- Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems.
- Anticipates potential problems and takes the initiative to solve complex problems through creative thinking and creative use of internal and external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise.
- Exercises mature professional judgment in identifying the implications of experimental results.
- Understands customer needs and applies technical solutions to meet goals.
- Provides technical input and support to proposals as required.
Supporting and supervising task delegation to team:
- May supervise a small work group consisting of technical or professional staff with some coaching from own supervisor, or may provide advice and guidance in area of specialization to others.
- Assists in performing managerial tasks as requested, such as assigning tasks to engineers; planning and coordinating portions of the engineering work; preparing scopes, schedules, and budgets; attending project meetings; and developing lesser-experienced technical professionals.
- Discusses with other senior engineers to agree priorities and implications on work of others.
- Approves work schedules and makes recommendations for increased resources and special equipment.
- Makes commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources, and staff required to meet goals.
- Coordinates the activities of engineering and design groups assigned to small projects.
- Participates in developing deadlines, projects, and work to be done.
- May manage one or more small projects, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resource allocation, and risk.
- Provides appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical or design safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in the offshore or onshore oil and gas industry, including a minimum of five (5) years (preferred) in the GCC region.
- Must have at least three (3) years of experience in a similar position in a mega oil and gas or petrochemical project, managing a team of engineers and designers.
- Previous experience working in the Middle East would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of engineering computer programs and general business software.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience and detailed knowledge of relevant international codes and standards.
