Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Support the Superintendent to create and implement a culture and a set of EHS systems and work practices that delivers the highest performance standards:
* Role-model the behaviours that enable the company to achieve the highest EHS standards. Lead and motivate the teams to follow own example
* Teach the teams the principles, policies, SOPs and behaviours required to deliver the highest levels of EHS performance
* Teach the teams the principles, policies, SOPs and behaviours required to deliver the highest levels of EHS performance
* Develop and implement EHS systems and processes (eg: auditable systems for 5S / housekeeping including stacking,storage, product segregation, cleanliness).Implement systems to report non conformance
* Identify EHS improvement opportunitie
* Operate equipment and production systems to comply with budgets
* Identify ways to decrease costs and increase productivity or resource -utilisation Specialist, APT, Rodding, Carbon
* Assist the Supervisor in the smooth operation of the Rodding room to meet Production targets
* Assist in planning for recovery of hammered reject green anodes back into the process, utilizing the internal scrap bunker
* Apply Continuous Improvement techniques (eg: Single Point Lessons, Quality Control, Standardised Work) to develop and validate process documentation for Furnace operations (including cast iron management), Casting, Spent anode cleaning, Carbon Recycling
* Identify process redundancies / opportunities for scheduling non core tasks

Collaborate with the Technical team to enhance process control in:
* Furnace Operational excellence
* Cast Iron inventory management (understand losses and make up, utilise existing mass balance study, identify variations)
* Cast Iron specification measures and controls, ensuring CI is within specifications; execute the improvements (eg: reduce waste; maximize recycling)
* Action EHS tasks and projects including delivering Safety interactions, actioning risk assessments for all tasks and projects, actioning work place audits, participating in incident and accident investigations , ensuring mobile equipment safety and consistent, continuous application of the SA Golden Rules and generation of the appropriate equipment notifications

Support the Superintendent to develop the teams’ technical, leadership and operational skills to deliver a sustainable improvement in Area capability and performance Support the Superintendent to:
* Execute the SA Omanisation strategy by transferring t technical skills
* Action one-on-one development initiatives (observe; coach; train).
* Notify the Supervisor or the Superintendent of persistent cases of under-performance
* Create Area training and development strategies. Leverage the SA training and development resources as well as Area and Departmental programs and resources

Support the Supervisors to lead their teams to deliver on the Shift targets:
* Role-model the behaviours that enable the Supervisor and the teams to achieve the highest standards in quality and output . Lead and motivate the teams to do the same
* Teach the teams the technical skills and the operational procedures (SOPs) to enable high levels of production performance
* Identify improvement opportunities; apply Continuous Improvement techniques1 to refine systems and SOPs and implement improvement projects.
* Action Area tasks, for example:
- Support weekly Production Planning: work with the Superintendent and the Process Officer to produce the weeklyproduction plan
- Collate production data; analyse and report shift performance
- Attend the weekly Maintenance mee ting and ensure the {Area} requirements are incorporated in the plan
- Lead or support improvement projects; deliver technical advice; transfer skills to the local workforce
- Support change management, including communicating the approved changes to the crew and tracking progress in the Area management systems
- Support wide-scale cleaning projects and ensure these activities do not conflict with maintenance or operational plans

Monitor, control and conserve resources to minimize waste and maximize profits:
* Optimise resource usage and minimize waste (eg: monitor PPE usage; conserve small tools)
* Control time and attendance by maintaining accurate SAP records; control costs

Rod repair management:
* Work with existing systems to ensure rod repair continues
* Assist Superintendent in development of simplified and less time consuming rod repair management system and roll -out to Rodding room crews and Carbon Technical department
* Provide audit process to ensure effectiveness of the new system

Requirements

*Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with 8 years in a relevant area or
* Diploma Degree in Engineering with 10 years in a relevant area

Good knowledge in AP30 technology experience. Very strong Carbon experience.
* Significant exposure over a period of time to world’s best practice (site visits, conferences, specialized training).
* The capacity to constantly update own specialist skills by reading, participating in training and development, attending international conferences and by drawing on professional networks.
* Start-up experience is desirable.
* The Specialist is required to operate independently and to apply and transfer his/her deep technical
