Tibetan is a language that is steeped in culture due to its relationship with Buddhism. Many years ago, before the Islamic invaders of India sought to remove the influence of Buddhism, sacred texts were carried into Tibet to be translated for the people. Most of the mission was a success and today, Tibetan plays an important in the practice of the religion. Also as a result of this relationship, Tibetan is written in a Sanskrit script.Today, most speakers of Tibetan have a working knowledge of the language, as it requires monastic level studies to grasp at an advanced stage. While there are complexities, the language is fun to learn and Tibetans love to teach the language.
