VAT Analyst - Middle East

Position Purpose

Responsible for managing the Middle East (UAE / Bahrain / EU) VAT compliance and accounting and ensure robust control framework to mitigate any undue VAT leakage

Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Local VAT Compliance (UAE & Bahrain) and Audit management

- Interaction with EY on all monthly VAT related returns
- Provide data on VAT input / output to EY
- VAT query handling and resolution with EY
- VAT Audit management in consultation with EY
- Ensure VAT supporting documents are maintained.
- Monitoring VAT calendar, including all tax payments, to ensure compliance with UAE / Bahrain tax authority's dates

VAT Accounting (UAE & Bahrain)

- Ensure GL level reconciliation with sub ledger including submission in Blackline
- Non VAT claimable data is segregated and reported correctly
- Reverse charge / deemed sales - ensure correct accounting and reporting
- Prepare monthly tax provision calculation / analysis for VAT.
- Ensure all VAT transactions are properly captured including Intercompany transactions

EU VAT Compliance and monitoring

- Liaise with MEU VAT teams (GB / NL / FR) to ensure that VAT returns are prepared / submitted in time
- Check monthly data to ensure that Tax Departure country codes are properly selected on applicable Sales orders.
- Monitor any new customers that need to be included in the VAT invoices flow
- Work with stakeholders to setup new VAT flow and ensure compliance
- Work with MEU VAT teams for all payments / refunds / Blackline Reconciliations and accounting issues
- Scrutiny of invoices on sample basis to ensure the VAT is being captured accurately.
- Keep a close watch on commercial leakage of VAT and propose compliant mitigation options of the same.
- Liaise with other functions / MBS partners for incorrect VAT, if any
- Provide all supporting documentation to external auditor (PWC) during field audit.
- Provide the required assistance to management for the Adhoc requests.
- Any other task related to VAT or general accounting based on the requirement.
- Monitor the new developments in VAT in UAE / Bahrain and its impact on business

Requirements

Knowledge: including education, qualifications and training

- Professional degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
- Deep expert knowledge of Statutory Accounting (for local accounting)
- Deep knowledge of VAT laws and regulations and accounting

Experience

- 3-5 years of experience in statutory/ VAT accounting / preferably in international business environment
- Experience in working with financial systems example:SAP
- Experience within the FMCG industry with a Multi-National (Preferred)

Languages

- Professional fluency in English and Urdu
