Our newest opportunity is for a Senior Lighting Designer to join our allied practice InSite, based in Porto. This position is responsible for the design and delivery of Landscape Lighting projects to high quality standards in a timely and cost effective manner in accordance with client expectations.

Responsibilities

We envisage success in this role to include;

- Development of lighting strategies and concept design information (look and feel) as a contribution to landscape and outdoor spaces.
- Development of schematic, detail and tender level design information for external lighting packages, delivered in isolation and as part of the multi-disciplinary package.
- Delivery of technically complete design documentation, summary reports and technical reports meeting the client objectives, as well as InSite and KEO system requirements.
- Producing detailed lighting calculations, drawings and reports to support key project deliverables.
- Ensuring the production of project documents is accurate, clear and concise, and compliant with the standards, local rules and regulations, industry best-practice, and other quality standards dictated by the nature of the project.
- Conduct internal review and quality checks of design drawings and calculations to ensure compliance with the project's requirements.
- Liaise with other disciplines within the Energy and Resources Project Team for coordination and ensure all requirements are understood.
- Regularly liaise with the PE, Design Managers and Associate Technical Director to keep informed of all developments or changes associated with the project.
- Proactively manage selected projects (or components of projects), take responsibility for resource allocation, manage the production of analysis and design (including drawings and reports), ensure the integrity of the overall design (in collaboration with other design disciplines), quality assurance and Client feedback.
- Identify opportunities and driving implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability of design components.
- Be up to date on the latest thinking and research around lighting strategies, sustainable lighting approaches, contributions to resilience and adaptability.
- Drive a lighting contribution to sustainable and resilient design of adaptive places.
- Be committed to Sustainable Development and resilient design principles related to lighting, have an understanding of Dark Skies policies and Natural lighting.
- Apply international design standards such as Europe and Middle East Design Codes, Council standards, Client specifications and briefs.
- Be comfortable reviewing and commenting on electrical information for other MEP components of the spatial design input, such as swimming pool and water feature plant rooms, schematics and irrigation electrical information.
- Gain a good understanding of the background of the client's business and industry to facilitate building effective and enduring relationships and consolidate both company and personal credibility in the industry.
- Resource and develop skills and knowledge base of Design, Assistant and Graduate Engineers assigned to projects.
- Liaise with Team Leader, Design Managers, BIM Managers, and BIM Team Leader assigned to projects.
- Provide leadership, direction and technical advice to project team members, take a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential, lead by example to achieve sector/divisional goals and champion a quality, innovative and entrepreneurial culture.
- Ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills possess good organizational skills and proactive approach in project management.
- Liaise with InSite Region Offices counterparts and other consultants as appropriate to the projects.
- Take responsibility for defined tasks within prescribed limits.
- Gain experience and proficiency with InSite and wider KEO systems and procedures.
- Engaging in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Become familiar and compliant with Health and Safety regulations and guidelines.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or the organisation.

Requirements

Qualifications

To be successful in this dynamic opportunity, we envision that your career journey to date will include 8 years of experience as a lighting designer with at least 5 years as a lighting leader with industry recognition of capability in the role. A University degree from a recognised University, including relevant specialism with lighting design, by experience or specialist courses or Master's Degree. Possession of a Sustainable Design accreditation such as LEED, BREAM or equivalent would be an advantage.

- Experience delivering lighting concept design information which can successfully communicate lighting ideas to client groups.
- Consulting experience in landscape related projects in Europe and the Middle East.
- Consulting experience in projects of all facets of lighting design to include roadways, façade, architectural, landscape and public spaces in Europe and the Middle East.
- Knowledge of drafting and BIM, how to define BIM outcomes, BIM processes, how to coordinate a BIM project within the 3D environment and how to apply design.
- Experience in the production of technical lighting documentation to given local utility standards and other international design standards utilizing AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, etc.
- Knowledge in utilising GIS platforms such as QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.
- An understanding of utility processes from concept stage to construction.
- A passion for lighting design to outdoor spaces and a desire to develop within a large international design practice with opportunities to travel and work with other international studios within the company.
- Proficient in utilising lighting design software such as AGI32, Dialux, Perfect Lite, Dialux Evo, Photoshop, InDesign etc.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
