Automation Engineer

Job description / Role

This vacancy is with a European Systems Integrator who have successfully won and delivered expert design and implementation on some of the most prestigious construction projects in Qatar in recent years (Doha International Airport/ Hamad Port Project/ Sports Stadia. The company has technical expertise in consulting, designing, delivering and managing critical infrastructure projects where they integrate IT, security, communication, building management, automation, and command and control information systems.

Overall purpose of job:
• As a part of an Automation Team, the successful candidate will produce design for Industrial and Building Automation systems.
• They will also be responsible for contribution to the bid, documentation and implementation of these prestigious projects.
• He/she must be able to gather and understand requirements, propose technical and commercial solutions; manage preparation of Automation and BMS tenders/bids, select automation equipment and Field Devices from a variety of manufacturers, be able to work individually and on team projects; pitch developed solutions to Private and Governmental clients.
• Successful candidate will be required to travel for site surveys, site visits, customer meetings and there may be a need for this role to work from remote site office locations or client offices.

His/her responsibilities include:
• Responsible for the design, architecture and cost estimate of technical solutions for bid proposals and projects for the technical field under his/her responsibility. Ability to generate alternative solutions with better costing structure with solid technical arguments.
• Participate in the setup, supervision and performance of the installation, configuration and testing & commissioning activities during project implementation if required.
• Participates in the Business Development and Technical Departments as part of the technical team that designs and delivers the technical solutions for the bid proposals and projects.
• Communication & representation of the project to the customer and partners as required in coordination with his supervisor.
• Configuration management, project and system documentation.
• Ensures compliance with company's quality policies and procedures for all activities under his/her responsibility.
• Investigate and develop skills in new technologies.

Requirements

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of eight to ten years’ experience in engineering and working with major SCADA packages. Experience in SCADA software such as InTouch, Wonderware System Platform, Movicon as well as familiarity with brands such as Greystone Energy, BELIMO, Endress+Hauser, etc.
• Experience designing automation systems.
• Experience in software program design and development in Industrial Automation applications.
• Ability to understand complex processes and communicate them to other disciplines.
• Experience in creating requirements documents, project plans.
• Work well in a team environment.
• Work well under pressure, well organized, mentally tough; detail oriented, follows through and completes tasks; comfortable working with non-technical users.
• Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
• Ability to access and work on equipment at customer sites.
• Previous experience in Building Automation is mandatory. Previous experience in Industrial Automation is desirable.
• Proficient use of English in written and verbal forms.
