Overview

An international energy operator is seeking a senior electrical commissioning engineer to support large-scale oil and gas facilities through commissioning, start-up, and handover to operations. This role combines strong technical expertise with on-site leadership, working closely with contractors, vendors, and operations teams to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable delivery of electrical systems.

The position is predominantly onshore, with occasional offshore support as required.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and support commissioning and start-up activities for electrical systems across onshore and offshore facilities
  • Oversee and coordinate EPC contractors, subcontractors, and vendor personnel during execution and commissioning phases
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, applicable codes, standards, and technical specifications
  • Manage commissioning execution activities, including operational testing and system handover to operations
  • Perform and review commissioning procedures, system completions, and pre-commissioning activities
  • Support start-up readiness and smooth transition of systems to operations teams
  • Provide technical oversight of LV and HV electrical systems, including power distribution, protection systems, and control interfaces
  • Participate in site activities related to safety, isolation, and permit compliance in line with established procedures
  • Interface with multi-discipline engineering, operations, and project teams to support overall project objectives

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in applied sciences or engineering

Knowledge and experience requirements

  • Minimum 8 years experience working on large oil and gas projects
  • At least 1 year experience in a supervisory or acting supervisory role, including oversight of service providers or vendor personnel
  • Strong knowledge of project execution phases including engineering, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and systems completion
  • Proven ability to interpret P and ID drawings, datasheets, general arrangement drawings, and technical procedures
  • Experience working with EPC contractors, subcontractors, and equipment vendors
  • Exposure to vendors and equipment commonly used in LNG or large-scale energy facilities, including power generation and control systems
  • Demonstrated experience managing commissioning activities and performing operational testing of electrical systems such as UPS, normal and emergency power distribution, transformers, subsea cables, and umbilicals
  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems including LV and HV systems, protection relays, distribution boards, and subsea power cables
  • Familiarity with lock-out and tag-out procedures and relevant electrical codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of ATEX and IEC regulations
  • Experience supporting start-up activities and system handover to operations
  • Offshore experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
