Contracts Specialist (Transportation Industry) - Qatar

Linum Consult’s client is major consultancy operating in the Middle East. Due to continued growth, they are currently seeking Contracts Specialist with a background in the Transportation/Infrastructure industry to join their team in Qatar. This is a permanent, client-side role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supporting development and implementation of contracting policies and procedures
• Actively participating in the development and implementation of standard contract terms and conditions for the company’s contracting departments
• Supporting assessment and review of contracting strategies and implementing conditions for improvement
• Proposing draft contract document formulation and preparing final contract documents
• Arranging for final contract document review and acceptance by legal, end-user department and contractor
• Providing advice and handling the claims and disputes processes that are escalated by the Contract Administration Department
• Evaluating and monitoring contract performance to ensure compliance with the contractual obligations
• Providing assurance assessments on variation orders and claims after they are elevated from the Commercial Department
• Keeping abreast of new legislation, government policy, best practice and relevant external factors relevant to the procurement and contracting activity
• Overseeing contract close-out processes and procedures

Requirements

• At least a Bachelor’s degree qualification in Law. However, a Quantity Surveying or Engineering degree, with a formal legal qualification of contracting experience would also be accepted
• At least 10 years’ experience in the construction industry, with a minimum of 6 years working for consultants or end-clients
• Commercial, procurement, or legal experience on major infrastructure construction projects, such as highways, rail, airport complexes, etc.
• Excellent document drafting and contract formation skills, with excellent technical knowledge of the FIDIC suite of contracts
• Experience of claims investigation and resolution, with strong negotiation skills and an understanding of what can realistically be achieved
• As this is a permanent role, our client is NOT looking for freelancers
• Previous history of working internationally and in the Middle East
