Employment: Full Time

Main Purpose of the Job

• To monitor and control various Central Plants and facilities plant rooms processes and equipment, such as the line-up of Primary, Secondary and Tertiary chilled water pumps.
• To Start-up and shutdown all Chillers, chilled water circulation pumps, Fire water pumps, Cooling towers, Ozone Generators, Air compressors, Chemical injection pumps, etc.
• To log & review various parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow and level to ensure they are within the operating limits, takes corrective action or informs the shift supervisor of abnormalities to ensure continuity in operations and meet the requirements of the Education City.

Key Result Areas - Principal Accountabilities

• Monitors, controls, starts-up /shutdown, Isolation/De-Isolation of water-cooling process and operate equipment throughout Central Plant control panels and local facilities plant rooms.
• Lines-up and commission /de-commission all types of chilled water circulation pumps.
• Assists maintenance crew in repairs and maintenance as directed by their supervisors.
• Control and monitors the dosage of chemical injection into the water-cooling circulation systems.
• Carries-out instructions of on Operations Engineer’s and Operations managers on various adjustments to the process. Directs other technicians to manually adjust and monitor various processes such as level, pressures, flows, temperature and chemical dosing.
• Involves personally in the activities of cleaning of tanks, pipelines, stripping and reassembling pumps and cooling towers.
• Logs all Central Plant readings and logs daily activities in main logbook of the Central Plant.
• Operates various communications such as VHF radios, telephones.
• Understands, prepares and monitors all types of work permits in all locations under the directions of the Operation Engineer.
• Checks, monitors, operates and controls all safety and fire equipment.
• Carries-out other similar or related duties such as checking the plant reading on the control panel with external reading on equipment or process lines to ensure on malfunction, starting emergency generator(s), transferring and topping up water and chemical tanks.
• Acts as part of the Central Plant control room team in case of evacuations/emergency situations and takes appropriate action in accordance with fire and safety rules and regulations.
• Provides input in the preparation of the daily activity reports, monthly reports, contractor appraisal reports, and other ad hoc reports, as required by the department.
• Provides input in preparation of the work shift plan and leave schedule for the Central Plant Operators.
• Ensures Permit to work procedures are effectively implemented.
• Carries out isolation, lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures, cleaning, flushing of the system before handing over to maintenance.
• Ensures all the safety precautions are implemented during the maintenance works.
• Takes proper measures in operations due to the maintenance activities.
• Carries out inspection and ensures all the safety measures are in place before desolation and restoring normalcy. Carries out de-isolation and restores the normalcy after maintenance activities are completed.

• Help to ensure that all central plant related maintenance is being delivered in full compliance of Health, Safety and Environmental Regulations.
• Work within a culture of customer service and the meeting of SNCL values.
• Develop own skills by fully utilising the onsite technical information.
• Partake in a shift rota covering the site 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
• To provide overall onsite maintenance of central plant services and observe Health and Safety.
• To help identify methods that will offer cost savings and efficiencies.
• To work within the Quality (ISO 9000) systems for the maintenance department.
• To provide comprehensive maintenance service as detailed within the contract.
• To take an active role in helping to ensure that reactive and preventative maintenance is carried out within SLA.
• To provide regular updates to your supervisor.
• To assist in the identification of electrical spares/equipment across the estate.
• To undertake personal training and development as required meeting the change in service needs of the department.
• Required to work in all areas of maintenance activity that are frequently hot, humid, exposed, at heights, uncomfortable and sometimes unpleasant.
• Complete task sheets and paper work as detailed by your line manager.
• To undertake fault diagnosis.
• To actively promote and support good working practices within own area.
• To communicate well at job level and with contractors.
• To carry mobile phone to facilitate immediate response to emergency work.
• Oversee, inspect and ensure safe working of contractors.
• Any other such tasks and duties relevant to the post as may be determined in agreement with the Engineering Manager.

Requirements

• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Must be very familiar with the use of the computer with the knowledge MS office package and emails.
• Willingness and aptitude to acquire new skills

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Mechanical/Process/Instrumentation Engineering or 5 years apprenticeship; and 5+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience or an equivalent qualification and relevant experience in another technical engineering role.
• Candidate should be of 25 to 30 years of age, at least 5 years' experience in Mechanical or Instrumentation plants and process operations, preferably in a Facility Management industry or Infrastructure with exposure to chilled water production, and associated safety and shutdown systems.
• An aptitude and exposure to Programmable Logic Controls/SCADA system is desirable.

Experience:

• Working in a Middle East environment is an advantage (minimum 3 yrs)
