Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

• Ensure timely and accurate design work on sites by coordinating, monitoring and managing design / supervision consultants through the discipline design team;
• Liaise with client to ensure complete satisfaction on design related aspects of the project on site.
• Prepare the Design Management Plan to cover all stages of the project from inception through to handover.
• Draft the scopes of service required from architects and designers and prepare the RFP for consultant procurement
• Advise as necessary on suitable architects and design consultants
• Review and recommend approval/ rejection of consultants’ key personnel and sub-consultants;
• Implement the QPM design stage gateway process and ensure deliverables are defined in the consultant agreements.
• Actively participate in Design/Supervision Consultant(s) selection and contracting.
• Prepare the design stages completeness check report for the client, recommending design appropriateness to move from one stage onto the other;
• Coordinate the check of design drawings submitted by the Design Consultant(s) to ensure completeness with the scope of work and consultant agreement.
• Chair and minute design management and design procurement meetings;
• Attend/ chair/ and participate in design workshops;
• Implement the QPM value management process and facilitate value management workshops.
• Ensure from the design consultant the production of complete, coordinated and approved design, tender and contract documentation in compliance with the approved Master Schedule;
• Coordinate with the CM the correct dissemination and procedures for shop drawings and the contractor’s procedures for the same;
• Liaise with the CM and supervision consultant for construction drawings review to assure appropriateness as to the client/ authorities requirements and build-ability respectively;
• Instruct and monitor compliance by the design consultant of client’s instructions for changes in design
• Monitor the status of design and construction related NOC’s;
• Maintain records of drawings and other documents up to date, in liaison with the document controller;
• Provide support in coordination requirements related to authorities involved in the process of approvals.
• Monitor the overall design delivery program and report critical issues to the Project Manager;
• Pursue the design/ engineering consultants for timely delivery of documents and drawings;
• Prepare a monthly design status report and submit to the PM for inclusion in the monthly progress report;
• Monitor the contractors’ shop drawing preparation performance and identify any measures required to be taken to address shortfalls;
• Attend risk assessment workshops and provide input as to design risks on the project. Assist in the management of design?related risks and opportunities;
• In conjunction with Document Control maintain a record of Design Consultant(s) submittals.
• Evaluate and endorse the variation orders/concession requests submitted by the Design Consultant(s) for client's approval.
• Review and report to client on all monthly reports submitted by Design Consultant including areas of concern and recommended plans of actions.
• Facilitate meetings with Design Consultant(s) and client to review design document and take decisions as required.
• Review consultant / contractor work progress for contract payments.
• Manage and control QPM technical team to ensure appropriate monitoring of the design work of Design Consultants and Contractors in construction stage.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation, filing of design documents and reporting to appropriate stakeholders.
• Coordinate closely with the supervision consultant to get all site design work reviewed and approved.
• Ensure appropriate usage and application of the Project Management System (PMS) with respect to entry and analysis of work related data for day to day functioning to facilitate seamless communication of all relevant design information..
• Coordinate with the project commissioning team to ensure that all projects are meticulously commissioned to deliver world class standards of quality and snagging items completed.
• Maintain client liaison throughout the project to ensure client satisfaction with design work progress.
• Advise client on design issues and remedial actions in case of deviations.

Requirements

• 20 Years experience with 10 years in a similar role
• Bachelor Degree in Architecture
• Professional Chartership/Registration required
• Experience of working within PM or Consultancy firms
• GCC experience
• Value Engineering expertise
• Best practices in design management
• Design management processes and procedures
• Gateway design stage management

• Data analysis
