Design Manager - Gas

- Meet schedules of design and other deliverables,
- Lead and guide the team,
- Coordinate with client, other stake holders and internal teams within office.
- Technical support for testing and commissioning, projects, O&M, construction supervision, finance/ commercial teams.
- Feasibility study, concept and detailed design of central gas systems for residential and commercial use.
- Thorough knowledge of city gas network design including hydraulic analysis.
- Thorough knowledge of concept design and detailed design of gas farms of different types, such as SNG, LNG.
- Thorough knowledge of design of internal building gas distribution system.
- Leads, manages and coordinates all activities independently of design process, including attending meetings with clients and all stakeholders.
- Guide, lead and coordinate the works of Senior Engineers, Engineers, CAD designers etc.
- Prepare and follow up design program/ Project schedule.
- Review third party design reports, design drawings, material submittals, method statements, shop drawings, hydraulic analysis models –all related gas networks and gas farms.
- Preparation of design reports, technical specifications and updating of technical specifications from time to time.
- Estimating gas demand, preparing feasibility study, concept design, presentation, scope of work etc. for new city gas system projects and support to Business Development.
- Preparation/ updating of concept design, attending risk assessment studies, reviewing risk assessment workshop outcomes, Scope of Work, BoQ, specifications for new RFP related to gas farms.
- Lead the review of technical proposals from EPC contractors for gas farm and preparation of evaluation reports for all procurement related to gas farms.
- Lead the updating of hydraulic model of network piping from time to time and review requests of change of load and various scenarios.
- Lead review of sub-developer gas system review (internal buildings and tie-in to network) and attend meetings with sub-developers.
- Solve design related issues/clashes in co-ordination with other parties involved.
- Gas systems operation and maintenance tasks. In the initial period, lead and guide O&M related tasks for gas networks, temporary gas tank/ farm installations. Establish guidelines for O&M etc.
- Provide technical support for gas network testing and commissioning, tie-in with different network package interface and gas farm.
- Ability to independently create, review, and approve Testing and Commissioning Plan, Procedures, Method Statements, Data Sheets, Testing Criteria, and Testing and Commissioning Reports,
- Validate testing and commissioning results for gas system and prepare and review testing and commissioning guidelines for contractors and developers.
- Follow up of on ongoing & pending/due submittals, be knowledgeable to review sub-ordinates review comments, highlight differences & deficiencies.
- Prepare progress reports, quality reports in coordination with team and follow up
- Interact and communicate with clients, external and internal consultants, all internal team members and contractors to ensure smooth operation
- Site inspections for gas installations (internal building, gas plant and network) with team members to ensure work are carried in accordance to the requirements.
- Provide feedback to Engineering Manager related to design and other work related issues.
- Provide ideas & suggestion for organizational development & team growth.
- Ensuring that Functional Objectives are established in line with the strategic Business plans of the Department
- Monitoring the performance of all processes and personnel of the department
- Meeting departmental performance targets, monitor, and report on the same.
- Ensuring profitability of the department.
- Accountable for the effectiveness of established Management System in the Department
- Ensuring integration of established Management System requirements into Business process
- Ensuring that the integrated management system is maintained properly within the department
- Promoting Management systems awareness, Risk based thinking within Department.
- Awareness of Functional Objective, QHSE Policy, benefits of following the established Management system as well and implication if not complying with the requirements.
- Awareness of the Significant Environmental Aspects and work related Occupational Hazards
- Incident Reporting to HSE team in case of any incidents
- Engaging and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness and improvement of the Management systems

Requirements

- Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 12 years’ experience in gas systems mentioned in job responsibility, out of which minimum 8 years’ design experience in GCC with gas distribution utilities/Infrastructures designer/EPC contractor.
- MMUP, Qatar approved Engineer status will be added advantage.
- Membership of IGEM, NFPA etc. will be added advantage.
- Good knowledge of gas standards and codes relevant to city gas and internal building gas systems (IGEM, NFPA, BS etc.) and testing and commissioning
- Familiar with authority regulations in Qatar (Woqod, Civil Defense, QP etc.)
- Good command over English language both oral and written.
- Excellent technical and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lead, guide and coordinate others.
- Good knowledge in Microsoft Office/AutoCAD
- Hydraulic modeling knowledge in GasWorks software will be an added advantage.
