Job description / Role
General Description:
• This position shall manage design activities to ensure that targets are being met and progress being delivered for client-managed projects.
• To provide management oversight for all phases of the construction project and ensure that specifications are being followed and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.
• Provide design support related to the Project,
• Draft, review or recommend any design-related documents as required.
• Review and ensure that design principles are incorporated and applied.
• Identify, develop, and promote Programme and project-required design policies.
• Provide progress reports as and when required.
• Attendance at relevant meeting.
Job Responsibilities: Tunnelling
• Provide design support and technical expertise as required throughout the duration of a project.
• Review design reports and architectural and engineering drawings to make sure that all contract specifications and regulatory and legislative requirements are being followed.
• Coordinate designs and tasks with stakeholders during all phases of a project.
• Oversee, manage, and review the performance of consultants and contractors in terms of design.
• Develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of a project following a logical pattern for utilisation of resources.
• Supervises design managers, reviews their reports, checks on any reported difficulties, and highlights any safety, quality, environmental violations, or other reported deficiencies.
• Regularly report on design progress, elevate issues, and any proposed necessary modifications to plans.
• Identify, develop, and promote Programme and project-required design policies by applying international design standards and best practices across various projects.
• Hydraulic Design with Tunnel & Drainage Networks.
Requirements:
Required Skills and Competencies - Tunneling
• Minimum 20 years’ overall experience in design of deep tunnels and outfalls.
• At least 12 years’ experience working for consultant firms on large multidisciplinary projects.
• In-depth understanding of the planning and the technical requirements of deep tunnel drainage systems bringing together civil and mechanical design requirements with an understanding of modelling and stakeholder conditions.
• Experienced in design management and technical coordination with an in-depth knowledge of design procedures and processes.
• Experience of technical reviews and the use of structural design software
• Experience in handling environmental aspects and stakeholders.
• Knowledge of constructability, durability, sustainability and operation & maintenance of deep tunnels and outfalls.
• A “rounded profile”, with experience of leading multidisciplinary design teams
• Effective in building good working relationships within complex organisational structures and with various internal and external project stakeholders.
Mandatory Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in an appropriate field such as Engineering or equivalent.
• Evidence of suitable professional qualification, CEng or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken Experience of working in Qatar and / or the Gulf region.
• Driver’s Licence.
Desirable requirements:
• Master’s degree in a relevant field
• Arabic language skills
• Experience of working in Qatar and / or the Gulf region.
