Engineer - Setting Out

Job description / Role

Main Purpose of the Job:

Mott MacDonald has been appointed PMC on a large diameter tunnelling project and are looking to add to their construction supervision team. We are looking for a Senior Setting-Out Engineer to act as a technical advisor and support all setting out activities on site.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

* Setting out for groundwork and heavy civil engineering work and various stages of construction
* Oversee the setting-out being conducted by contractor
* Ensure setting out is being carried out in line with the project baseline
* Maintain a detailed register of all work daily activity including approvals/rejections
* Oversee and review pre-construction surveys to ensure its compliance with the contract
* Review all change requests submitted by the contractor before issuing approval
* Investigate any unusual occurrences during the construction phase
* Ensure quality assurance and quality control protocols are implemented and carried out in accordance with the contract
* Ensure health and safety measures are implemented at each stage of setting out

Requirements

Essential Candidate Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university; a recognised professional qualification would be a distinct advantage
* Minimum 12 years demonstrable experience in all aspects of setting-out and surveying of similar size tunnelling and underground structures projects
* Must be proficient with modem surveying instrumentation and techniques as appropriate to tunnelling and deep underground structures projects. Must be capable of interpreting data from the TBM guidance system and site records
* Must be capable of working collaboratively with the Contractor's staff to share information, provide constructive challenge and ensure the highest level of tunnel and shaft alignment
