Engineer - Tunnelling

Job description / Role

Main Purpose of the Job:

The Tunnelling Engineer is required to support for the Design Review team during the design phase of a large diameter tunnelling project.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

* Undertake site audits on the contractors as-built process and ensure that is being undertaken in accordance with their procedures
* Relate Field Change Requests and Non-Conformance Reports that are produced by the Contractor with as-built records
* Review as-built records against site information to confirm that the records are a true reflection of the construction of works
* Raise comments where as-built records are not in accordance with the construction works
* They will be required to observe safety procedures while attending sites
* To prepare daily reports, photographic documentation as per the project requirements
* To raise observations in order to report non-conformances
* To ensure that the quality and progress are effectively monitored and tracked throughout the program period
* To ensure that the tunnel is built with quality, design, technical standards and the procedures are adhered during the construction process of tunnel drives
* Undertaking reviews as required of contractor technical submittals including method statements and work package plans
* Monitoring the contractors compliance with environmental, health and safety issues and seeking intervention wherever required

Requirements

Essential Candidate Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited University to the approval of the Engineer
* Masters Degree and Professional Engineering Registration in the United States or a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom or any other recognized Professional Institution would be a distinct advantage
* Minimum 15 years demonstrable experience in the design and review of design build documents related to large diameter tunnelling projects, including deep underground RC structures and shafts
* Experience of tunnel lining with concrete segments and soil/ lining interaction are essential, as are advanced computer modelling techniques (Finite Element)
