Airswift is seeking a GIS technician to work in Qatar with a major oil & gas company.

Qualification

Diploma (3 years after high school) in engineering / GIS / geomatics / computer science / IT.

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in performing GIS data updates, geoprocessing, geospatial analysis, and in preparing maps and charts using ESRI GIS platform.
• Experience in oil and gas industry is highly desirable.
• Working knowledge in scripting using Python, Java, ArcPy, ArcGIS model builder, and ArcGIS SDK for JavaScript are highly desirable.
• Working knowledge in processing data captured from drone, multi-stations (MS60), and LiDAR.
• Working knowledge of related software such as FME and Fledermaus is highly desirable.
• Requires skills in MS Office (Excel, MS Access, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), Photoshop, image processing, and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Perform corporate GIS database edits after carrying out necessary transformation, processing, and quality assurance of data received from various sources.
• Study engineering records, extract, transform, and prepare geospatial data required for updating corporate GIS database.
• Create and modify geodatabases as per the design / UML diagram prepared by senior GIS engineer and develop scripts required for automating geoprocessing tasks.
• Perform geoprocessing, data format / coordinate system conversions and spatial / network / 3D / geostatistical analysis to identify the best location for new facilities, to fulfil GIS service requests and to meet other technical requirements of the section.
• Create 3D models of terrains and geographic features and prepare fly throughs to enable 3D visualization.
• Produce cartographic quality maps and charts required by business across the corporation.
• Carry out topological and quality checks of GIS data to assist senior engineers in performing quality assurance of corporate GIS or in evaluating contractor’s deliverables.
• Carry out field data collection and/or site verification to collect/verify data required to update corporate GIS.
• Act as GIS helpdesk by performing preliminary processing of GIS access and service requests and provide end-user support through phone calls, meetings, or direct office visits to troubleshoot technical problems under the guidance of senior GIS engineers.
• Assist senior GIS engineers in performing image processing using specialized software to enhance the visual quality of ortho-rectified aerial / satellite images.
