Head of Machine Shop / Superintendent

Job description / Role

Our client is a well-established company that provides all types of oilfield services to the oil & gas industry in the state of Qatar. Their production facility is fully equipped with state-of-art modern plant / workshop where they manufacture & produce all type of oilfield components, repairs & overhauling various types of machines and all other tailored products as per their clients’ required specifications that meets stringent quality assurance standards. Their facilities have Machine Shop, Welding & Fabrication Shop, Electrical Shop and Mechanical Shop.
They are seeking to recruit highly qualified Machine Shop Superintendent (head) to manage and lead the entire machine shop operations. They manufacture and fabricate all sorts of tailored products and components needed for maintenance, shut-down and overhauling activities as well as any other tailored product ordered by one of their clients. The company services all major oil & gas players in Qatari market, operating companies as well as EPC contractors.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the incumbent will be responsible & accountable for:
• Lead the daily activities of the machine shop, torqueing and coating activities in regards to Safety, Customers Orders and deliveries
• Continuous improvement of API/ ISO/QMS adherence in all areas.
• Ensure reliability of equipment performance in line with contract specified target
• Insure compliance in regards to timely and quality use of the ERP system.
• Actively participate in solving problems activities with all departments to reach company targets.
• Establish & continuously improve systems, processes along with procedures to enhance production and personnel performances. Define and deploy systematic Production targets for all areas in relation to SQCD.
• Apply basic and professional industrial tools such as (but not limited to) 5S / lean / Kamban / Six sigma/ Step Back 5x5
• Define / Communicate / Follow up clear measurable metrics to team members and enforce accountability.
• Initiate Daily/Weekly/ Monthly dashboard indicators for performance improvement in all areas.
• Hands on leadership through daily briefings to insure reaching both daily operations target as well as improvements targets
• Participate to budget establishment and propose with relevant studies and ROI analysis new investments to come.
• Deal Externally with customers, suppliers & third-party contract agencies.
• Maintain awareness of equipment technological developments through appropriate means. Liaise with contract resources engaged in the review of equipment criticality, development of maintenance strategies, and review of equipment spares needs.
• Lead expansion, re-organization and/or cost efficiency projects in machine shop as per strategy targets in coordination with senior management.
• Provide expert advice required during periods of critical emergency manufacturing intervention.
• Liaise with Licensors for all technical requirements and facility qualification

Requirements

The ideal candidate would be:
• Holding Mechanical Engineering Degree
• Around 10 - 15 years of experience as Machine shop Manager/ Superintendent in Machining fields. OCTG threading experience. Knowledgeable in Quality Management systems in particular API and ISO.
• Superior presentation & excellent oral & written communication skills.
• A comprehensive knowledge of machine tools used in the field, such as CNC Lathes, Oil Country Hollow Spindle Lathes, Vertical & Horizontal Borers, Universal Milling Machines, Tool & Cutter Grinders, Cylindrical & Vertical Grinders, Computerized Torque Turn Make-up units, Swage press etc. is essential.
• In depth knowledge of Premium and API Threading of tubular goods.
• Well versed in the requirements of API Q1, 6A, 16A, 5CT and 7-1.
• The capability to undertake major analyses of equipment histories, and maintain within the sections comprehensive statistical and technical data of machinery performance.
• The capability to control a schedule of diagnostic surveying and performance evaluation by directing on-site investigations which involve using specialist technical equipment such as borescopes, alignment telescopes and vibration analyzers etc.
