Job description / Role

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is required to help support, clean and maintain all research laboratory related areas and will report directly to the Basic Laboratory Support Core for direction of all duties and responsibilities within the research environment

POSITION ACTIVITIES

The specific activities/duties/responsibilities for this position would include:

- Operating and maintaining core facilities (sterilizers, media washers and ultra-pure water systems) following equipment and laboratory guidelines and established SOPs

- To collect, wash, sterilize and deliver all lab ware and sterilized media as required from all research related areas.
- Disinfecting, maintaining and cleaning of laboratory areas, special procedure rooms, core equipment and research office space which includes housekeeping (mopping and trash pick-up).
- Assists with receiving, processing and delivery of research shipments and research
store orders, maintains stocks and organizes research store.
- Assist lab personnel and lab team in moving specialized equipment and supplies,
Re-filling LN2 containers, obtaining dry ice, defrosting freezers and help maintains
Lab Temperature Monitoring System.
- Supply of waste disposal material and lab tissue for all labs.
- Collect, sterilize and dispose of biohazard waste for all labs and notify the lab team about violations they find regarding proper waste disposal.
- Delivers and collects clinical samples.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

- Must possess a High School diploma or have equivalent experience.
- Applicant must be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.
- Possess a valid Qatari driver’s license for over 6 months and have knowledge of the Doha area.
- Able to lift and relocate laboratory equipment and move heavy boxes of supplies.
- Have a familiarity with working on computers.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

- The preferred candidate would have knowledge of operating specialized (laboratory) equipment such as autoclaves / media washers and possess a basic understanding of basic laboratory processes and handling procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work typically takes place in a research laboratory environment and requires:
o Standing
o Walking
o Sitting
o Operating a PC and laboratory equipment
o Processing shipments and deliveries
o Heavy lifting/moving of specialized laboratory equipment (25Kg)
o Operation of specialized equipment (Autoclaves, Media washers, Millipore water systems)
