Network & Security Specialist

Job description / Role

JOB PURPOSE:
• Responsible for the procurement, deployment and management of all IT related hardware for the Organization, as well as working with the Admin function to procure all admin related materials for the IT department. Also oversee the IT security of the organization.

STRATEGIC:
• Compile inputs for the IT strategy formulation and budgeting exercise from the standpoint of setting up appropriate networks and related technical requirements for the Organization
• Interact regularly with users to understand their requirements and takes necessary steps to assist them in addressing those requirements within the acceptable established IT policies & procedures
• Ensure cost effective procurement of IT hardware for the Organization
• Participate in developing IT policies and procedures related to the procurement of IT related hardware and the distribution.

OPERATIONAL:
• Oversee the operation and administration of the company’s internal networks, servers, email & telecommunication
• Configure & manage the official network monitoring performance to proactively avoid slow operation or network crashes
• Set up the Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure at the Organization, including routers, firewalls, desktop systems and file servers
• Ensure the successful operation of the LAN environment at the Organization.
• Take necessary action for the installation and restoration of services liaising with all concerned in the process.
• Monitor and support technical systems required to keep the LAN up and running
• Identify and rectify operational problems in coordination with the Technical Support
• Assist staff in obtaining remote access to the LAN and the Organization e-mail facilities including the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users' requirements
• Report on the capacity and performance of existing networks and makes recommendations for acquisition of new or replacement equipment/infrastructure with economic justifications; coordinates with Technical Support in this regard
• Connect all users to the available networks by providing User ID and password creation support
• Oversee procurement, deployment & management of hardware including PCs, servers, network equipment for the organization
• Involved in the procurement of all admin materials, liaising with third parties as required.
• Oversee the overall IT security of the organization
• Perform any other work related duties as assigned by the IT Director

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with major courses in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field.
• Post graduate degree such as MSc, MBA in Computer Science or Information Systems Management is preferred
• Professional certification from relevant institutions will be an added advantage
• Above 5 years of relevant experience with at least 2 years in supervisory role
