POSITION SUMMARY

Under the leadership of the Associate Dean for Global and Public Health and direction of the Director, Division of Global and Public Health, the Population Health & Communication Specialist (PHCS) is responsible for developing, managing and leading population health research and related projects. The PHCS develops methodology and techniques for conducting the research, and the development of research instruments. The PHCS will assist in reviewing research related fieldwork and validating collected data. As a communication specialist, the incumbent will develop and author research proposals, reports, abstracts, manuscripts, and articles in accordance with GPH program framework, goals and objectives. The PHCS will also be involved in education/community programs as deemed appropriate.

POSITION ACTIVITIES

1. PHCS will provide strong analytical abilities and familiarity with population health research and development processes; coordinate the population health research projects management life cycle, including initiation, proposal development, Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission, and support the implementation and coordination of population health research and related projects under guidance from the Director, GPH.
2. The incumbent will provide support for the implementation of a training plan, recruitment of trainers, orientation of project coordinators to health care centers, recruitment sites and field sites as required; training of team with respect to facility, project and interview protocol, interview techniques, data handling procedures and data analysis process. Troubleshoot or make recommendation to resolve issues with ongoing research and related projects. Under direction and guidance, PHCS will manage research project timelines to ensure projects are completed within the specified timeline and identify and report on research and related project dependencies.
3. Regularly meet with stakeholders, including research constituents, collaborators and research study teams, to collect and communicate project requirements and escalate any issues.
4. The PHCS will coordinate and facilitate population health research based on appropriate methodology. Additionally, will be responsible for producing qualitative and quantitative research plans, designing research questionnaires and moderator guides. PHCS will analyze and interpret research data as directed.
5. The PHCS will develop and author abstracts, research reports and proposals, academic publications, magazine articles, blogs, etc. as directed for print, electronic and web-based communication.
6. Responsible for supporting the achievement of research and project management deliverables, including project plans and research schedules, and progress reports.
7. The PHCS will partake in GPH education and community programs as directed. PHCS will mentor students/junior staff members as directed.
8. Liaise within WCM-Q and with Hamad Medical Corporation, Ministry of Public Health, Primary Health Care Centers in Qatar and others as necessary.
9. May be asked at times to facilitate or present at research seminars, study groups and conferences. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. Medical Degree (MD or MBBS) with MPH/ MS in a public health discipline or PhD in Health Sciences/Public Health.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years prior research experience in Qatar or any other comparable country.
3. Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, and reports and articles of publishable quality.
4. 3-5 years minimum experience in use of bio statistical software (SPSS/SAS) and data analysis with proven track record.
5. Excellent management skills, project management skills, proactive problem solver with superb planning, coordination, leadership and mentorship skills.
6. Teaching experience at university/college level and/or record of developing/evaluating courses/curricula.
7. Advanced organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
8. Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
10. Advanced experience of working with Microsoft Office products including word processing, presentation software and data management software

HIGHLY DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Excellent knowledge of spoken and written Arabic.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work will be divided between a normal office environment requiring: standing, walking, sitting, operating a PC and other office equipment. Field and/or research clinical work which is required off-site.
